MARK YOUR CALENDARS: ADULT ED SPECIAL SERIES
Please join us for our Adult Education series with four special presentations on the Hebrew Bible led by Rabbi Harry Levin!

Friday, May 13 at
9 am:

SECRETS OF HEBREW LETTERS:
Jewish ethical worldviews are revealed in the structures and energies of the Hebrew letters as written by scribes in a Torah scroll.  Prepare for the beauty and meanings of the inner life of Torah, open for your close observation when we unroll a scroll, from beginning to end, at St. George's on Sunday morning, May 22.

Sunday, May 15 at 11:30 am:
TORAH PASSAGES IN THEIR OWN TIME...OUR TIME IN TORAH PASSAGES:
Explore the pshat, the plain-sense meaning of Torah narratives, which just might have had completely different meanings and resonances, in the ancient time when written, than those narratives might seem to have today.  Learn how an ancient and unchanging text commands us to use that unchanging text to change our current world.

Friday, May 20 at 9 am:
THE FIRST DAY OF CREATION:
WHAT MIGHT THE HEBREW TEXT REALLY SAY (WHICH TRANSLATIONS CANNOT)
A verse-by-verse, word-by-word, letter-by-letter exploration of the Torah's inner report of the progress of Creation.

Sunday, May 22 at 11:30 am:
TAKE AN INTIMATE TOUR OF AN UNROLLED TORAH SCROLL:
In Ralph Hall, across more than a dozen tables, set end to end, we will unroll a Torah scroll, and explore the mystical topographies of the Torah's inner territory.  Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for anyone who loves the Bible.

Wear RED to church.

We ask that all children meet in Ralph Hall at 9:50 for a special procession into the church.
(They will then head to Sunday School.)

The Gospel will also be read in many languages, including Vietnames, Swedish, French, Bulgarian, and more!

There are still two slots open: Evening Host on Sunday, May15 and Overnight Host on Saturday May 21! please see the sign up sheet by the water fountain in Ralph Hall.  We also will need assistance stocking the pantry and purchasing diapers/wipes.  If you'd like to help, please reach out to Janine Lamm-Roy (jlammroy@me.com) for a list of needed items.  And, if you've always wanted to volunteer with our Guests, but you don't know how to get started, please reach out to Janine, and she can answer all your questions.  As always, thank you for your support of this ministry!
St. George's Supports Family Promise:
Fundraiser on May 19th
May 19th marks this year's Family Promise fundraising event. A dinner will be held at Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch honoring Dorothea Bongiovi (BonJovi) for her work as founder of JBJ Soul Kitchen in Red Bank.

This is Family Promise's main fundraiser for the year, so a silent auction and 50/50 will accompany dinner and entertainment - and all donations will be greatly appreciated. Come and hear success stories from past guests and the exciting plans for Family Promise in the future. Last year 20 people from St George's attended and we hopef to do that again.

Please contact Tom Esposito (tespo97@aol.com / (732) 946-8036) for ticket information or visit the website (www.familypromisemc.org). Tickets are $100 per person for a cause we've supported since its beginning.

Canterbury Fair

UNDERWRITING UPDATE!
Underwriting now has received $8225 of support from donations!! Thank you to all who have generously donated already!! We still are hoping for $6,350!

The Underwriting covers the many expenses of the Canterbury Fair, especially the Games and Amusements for the kids, Staging (which includes advertising and security), and Outdoor Foods.

Can you help us by underwriting a part of these expenses? Any amount is appreciated. Last year there were over 10 individual donations to Staging! Each donation helps offset some of our costs and maximize what we raise for the programs and outreach at St George's.
Please contact Herb Geiss at canterburyfair@stgeorgesrumson.org or call him at 732-996-5606 to donate.

We are hoping to receive underwriting for the following:
Petting Zoo $600
Bouncy House $1000
Dunk Tank (back by popular demand!) $500
Kid's Games - Prizes & Crafts $950
Outdoor Foods $1,000
Staging $2,300

Every donation is important and much appreciated and will help to make the Fair better than ever, and more successful this year!

SILENT AUCTION
Dear Fellow Parishioners and Canterbury Fair Participants:

As the SILENT AUCTION is a major contributing factor in terms of the Fair's success, please remember how we need everyone's participation in one form or another. To remind, following is how you can contribute to our SILENT AUCTION in oh, so many ways:

Would you like to organize a basket with a theme? Jill can help you with ideas and our committee will happily wrap your basket for display. We are still looking for such donations prior to June 5 in order to stay ahead of the game.

Other than baskets, we are also most anxious to secure...

Theater tickets in New York City or tickets to something at Madison Square Garden

Limousine service round-trip to a NYC event

New York/New Jersey sporting event tickets ~ please, please, please?

Dine Around gift certificates (scroll down to see list of restaurants already secured)

A Trio of Fine Wines

Gift certificate for introductory lessons in: tennis, golf, Yoga, Pilates, piano, voice, music, you name it!

Kindles and Tablets!

The SILENT AUCTION COMMITTEE will be pairing items that complement each other so do not rule out a wonderful item you may have, not knowing what could be done with it. Trust us with that item!

And, our committee needs your help in terms of man and women power. Please let Jill Gemmel know when you could help at the church the week prior to the Fair, beginning on June 5. Please also let Jill know if you will help set-up and sit at the SILENT AUCTION area the day of the Fair.

I look forward to hearing from one and all and I thank you for your commitment to this year's Canterbury Fair.
