Choir of Boys and Girls!
Rehearsals begin
TOMORROW
October 1st at 4:30pm!

Do you know of a young person that likes to sing?  We would like to invite them to join the Choir of Boys and Girls. The Choir is fun, and an important part of St. George's ministry of music and worship. All that is required is the ability to read English, an enthusiasm for singing, and a willingness to learn and have fun.  Rehearsals are held from 4:30 to 5:15 on Thursday afternoons with pizza parties scheduled for the Thursday following each Sunday the choir sings.

Rehearsals for the Choir of Boys & Girls begin tomorrow, October 1st.

Parents and grandparents play a vital role in promoting a child's interests and, if singing is one of them, the Choir of Boys & Girls is an ideal opportunity.  Please consider it!

Skeptics and Suds is Back!
This year's theme is: "If you knew when each of the books of the New Testament was written, would it change your view of what those books mean?" Here is one simple example: Did you know that at least seven of Paul's letters were almost certainly written to vibrant Christian communities before any of the four Gospels was written? We will be reading Marcus Borg's book The Evolution of the Word, which contains both a chronological history of the documents making up the New Testament and the full text of each. Our first gathering will be held at 7pm on Monday October 12th. Because Molly Maguire's Pub has been sold, we are still searching for a good venue, (if you have a suggestion, please let Joel or Jeff know!) which will be announced. This discussion group is open to anyone with a genuine desire to examine their understanding of their faith and the Bible.

Outside, on the grounds
Canterbury Art Show:
A Tapestry of the Arts
On behalf of the art show committee, it is my great pleasure to provide the post show thank you to our parish. First, I want to thank the committee for their talents and dedication. As an observer, you probably witnessed the high level of organization and team work. Let me share how each committee member contributed.

Beth Sherrard, Vice-chair - Formstack, PayPal, artist liaison, and registration
Denise Weiner, Vice-chair - Artist liaison and web site updates Maggie Raynor, Vice-chair - All spreadsheets and show treasurer
Leslie Tuthill - Catering chair
Dianne Zeigler - Young Artists chair
Terry Blake - St. George's internal publications
Liz Hess - Artist-at-work chair
Carole Rogers - Art from Artist chair
Bob Becker
- Logistics chair
Deb Schmidt and Deb Very - Volunteer chairs
Mary Jane Suruda - Creative

Gather together the above group of powerful, effective people, along with the parish of St. George's, and success is guaranteed.

As a group we want to thank all of the volunteers of St. George's for their time and efforts: Extra hands to move and set up the grids, then the help in taking the grids down and moving them back into storage.

Gregg Nowell and his group of power volunteers to stage the outside areas and anything else we needed. The extra people to assist artists to move in and pick up their artwork. The cashiers, the greeters, the art guides, and the photographer.

We hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we appreciated your help.

We also want to thank all of the special contributors who made the art show so much more - The Jurors, Carol Lynn Chetkin, Erik Johanson and Kim Roberts-Honecker; Connie Gryczka for the architectural tours; Guaranteed Nurseries; Mary Embrey for the very special floral arrangements; Jim Fitzmaurice for the presentation on creating the bronze statue of Jesus; Stacey Guggenheim for staging and assisting with the special Youth Art feature; Frank Csulak for his expert assistance in artwork display; and, the ad journal advertisers.

Most importantly, we want to recognize the dedication from our clergy and staff and all the parishioners and friends of St. George's-by-the-River for their support of the art show.

We collectively want to thank all of the talented artists who participated and came to see the Canterbury Art Show.

Bottom line...how did we do?

We had 664 pieces of artwork on display from 93 artists in the Juried, Non-Juried Portfolio, and NonJuried Treasure segments of the show. From this inventory, we sold 125 pieces of fantastic artwork, over $25,000. We repeated the Art from Artists segment selling over $900 in drawing tickets. The Young Artists sold an additional $1,610 from their replenished inventory. Total gross income, which includes art sales, Young Artists, artist participation, reception and entrance fees, journal sales, Art from Artists, and miscellaneous items was over $46,848, with a net income of over $17,000. The art show brought in over 200 people for the Thursday night reception and had a total count above 600 people over the 4-day event. Many of the visitors were artists, their friends, our neighbors and the community.

We are proud of the Canterbury Art Show and its contribution to St. George's-by-the-River and its many Outreach ministries and missions.

Sincerely,
Coni Lefferts, Chairman
