We are in need of parents to volunteer as teachers.

Backpack and School Supplies Collectionbackpack-sm.jpg

Foster and Adoptive Services (FAFS)

August 10th through September 13th

We are starting our annual collection of backpacks and school supplies for donation to Foster and Adoptive Services. Any school supplies would be greatly appreciated (backpacks, pencils, markers, notebooks, rulers, erasers, crayons, etc.). There are sales currently at Staples, Target, Walmart on back to school items.

Last year over 70 backpacks filled with school supplies were collected. The children who received these were thrilled! Containers will be set up in Ralph Hall for you to drop off supplies. The backpacks will be brought to the altar and blessed on

Sunday, September 13th.

If you are interested, GROUPON is having a special on fully supplied backpacks for 29.99. CLICK HERE for the link.

Foster and Adoptive Services is headquartered in Monmouth Junction. They are the leading statewide advocacy agency for foster and adoptive parents. They provide support, training and advocacy to meet the special needs of foster, adoptive and kinship families, who provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children in foster care.

FAFS' Backpack Program was born from the images of children being removed from their homes for reasons of abuse or neglect with their belongings placed in trash bags. Today, when caring people like you donate backpacks, they are given to children in foster care by their foster parents as a gift to welcome foster children into the foster home.

and a musical treat by Russian group, LYRA, on Sunday, Sept. 6th during 10am worship

Art from Artists
Once again, we have invited all participating artists to donate artwork which you will have th e opportunity to win. Tickets may be purchased during the reception and show each day. Drawings will be held at the end of the reception and each show day. You can check www.canterburyartshow.com  to see the list of the artists who have generously contributed their artwork. Look for the helping hands stickers on their artwork which will prominently identify them at the show.

Artists at Work
During the daytime show hours, several artists will be painting and drawing on the church premises so that you will be able to see the creative process in action. On show days, look for the balloons and sitting areas around the premises to enjoy and interact with the artists.

The Canterbury Art Show:
Can You Help?
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
It takes a village... and the Canterbury Art Show needs just a few more volunteers!

The art show starts on Thursday, 9/3 with our Meet the Artists Reception and the excitement is palpable!  There are just 9 more volunteer slots to fill to be fully "manned" or "womaned".  You don't have to be an artist, an art connoisseur, or even be able to spell connoisseur!   We need a few folks to act as art guides, greet guests, carry the artwork during check-in and help take down the tents!  Whatever you can do would be greatly appreciated!   Please call Debbie Schmidt at 732-530-0759 or debschmidt269@gmail.com, Debbie Very at 732- 530-5345 or dbvery@hotmail.com or Maggie Raynor at 732-571-7972 or maggiec813@gmail.com.
