Outreach Grants

The following is a list of the grants approved at the June meeting of the Outreach Committee.  For each grant, a committee member "researcher" visits the agency, obtains a copy of the grant request, the latest financials for the agency and comparative bids from vendors.  Awards are made by committee vote.

St. Marks Center For Community Renewal, Keansburg,

approximately 5,000 meals are served monthly and 1,200 individuals are served by their Food Pantry. Hot breakfast and lunch are served every day. A nurse from VNA is on site weekly to provide screenings and a licensed social worker is onsite regularly.

Bayshore Wellness Center, a free family crisis counseling service, is operated out of the church. A grant request was approved for $4,000 to be used toward utility expenses.

Love, Inc, Eatontown,  this agency provides various programs to assist the needy in central Monmouth County. A grant request was approved for $2,522.00 for the purchase of 6 new office phones and 12 beds.

For Sale from the Fair

White Elephant has some lovely treasures leftover that we would love to sell to you at best price offers. This eliminates some storage space and charges for us and provides great finds for you.  We will have a display beginning Thursday in Ralph Hall and continuing through the coffee hour next Sunday, June 21st following the 10 a.m. service. Come enjoy your snacks while picking up a treasure you may have missed at the Fair.

Thanks,

Anne Marie and Debbie

Final REACH Meeting
All students and at least one parent/guardian need to attend this final meeting prior to our REACH trip.  We will meet next Wednesday, June 24th, at 7pm in the church.  If you are unable to attend, please email Brenda.

Please mark your calendars for Labor Day Weekend, September 4, 5 and 6... our Canterbury Art Show will be the happening event to end the summer season! This premier show is another way to support all the amazing efforts of the community outreach programs at St. George's-by-the-River.

This year, 94 local artists will be participating in our show: 53 in the Juried segment; 68 in Treasures and 30 in Portfolios. We are very excited to welcome 28 new artists who will be with us this year, as well as many artists returning from the past three years.

In addition to the fabulous art on display, we will continue to feature Art from Artists daily drawings, Artists-at-Work, Youth Art and tours of St. George's architecture and gardens.

You won't want to miss our Meet the Artists Reception and Preview party which will be held on Thursday, September 3rd - once again catered by Brennan's.

To Seek, Share & Serve

We wanted to share a thank you note received from the teens with the Community YMCA Y Teen Achievers program.

A grant of $1,500 was provided so that 6 students could attend the annual college tour. This program serves at-risk middle and high school students from

communities across Monmouth County. This year 30 students from Lakewood, Neptune, Red Bank, Freehold, Long Branch and Asbury Park traveled to visit nine college campuses in just four days. The tour included visits to:

Boston University, Suffolk University, Harvard University, University of New Haven, Yale University, Moravian College, Lincoln University, Jersey City University and Steven Institute of New Jersey. Several of the students are considering applying to one or more of the colleges visited, and one of the students, who was reluctant to go to college, has changed their mind and has decided to apply to college
