It is with regret that we announce the death of Paul Shea, former sexton of St. George's. Paul faithfully served St. George's for 25 years; his obituary can be found here.
May Paul's soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

THANK YOU to our Family Promise Volunteers!

So many slots are already filled -- we have only the following openings for Over Night Hosts: Sunday, March 22; Wednesday, March 25; Saturday, March 28.
This is truly one of the easiest volunteer efforts around -- just show up, lock the door, and hunker down for a lovely sleep in the library. Please see the sign up sheet in Ralph Hall (by the water fountain) if you'd like to sign up. Alternately, you can email Janine Lamm- Roy to volunteer! Additionally, we are looking for volunteers to help stock the kitchen and bring diapers/wipes for the little ones.
Please email Janine if you'd like to help provide some of these supplies.

Lenten Food DriveFood Drive

Feb. 22nd- April 2nd

Lunch Break is the first line of defense for thousands of people who struggle with hunger throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and is serving more and more people every year. The number of hot meals served has increased over 68 percent the last few years, and the food pantry distributions have increased a staggering 657 percent.

Last year they served over 56,000 meals and over 500 families depend on Lunch Break every month for their groceries. Add to that the homebound program where they deliver meals six days a week to the elderly, ill, weak and disabled and the numbers combined are frightening.

Wish List (Non-Perishable): canned or dry beans; canned fruits, vegetable, soups, stews, chili, tuna fish, chicken; cereals; peanut butter and jelly; pasta and sauces; macaroni and cheese, mashed potato and rice mixes; coffee, tea, juices; mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, vegetable cooking oil; salad dressings; salt, pepper; apple sauce, pudding, snacks; sugar, flour.

From the 2014 Annual Report:

1 Article Each Week:

Adult Ed

2014 saw the parish embark on the second half of The Story. The Story is described as abridged, chronological Bible that reads like a novel. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly woven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. I can safely say that this thirty one week program was the most successful adult education series in recent memory. It was not unusual to see twenty people attend our Friday meetings, and thirty or more attend the Sunday sessions. When we embarked on this program Ophelia shared some goals that we hoped would be achieved:

1. To increase Biblical literacy throughout the parish.

2. To have a parish wide, common spiritual focus.

3. To understand how reading Bible stories can become a spiritual discipline.

4. To engage visitors and newcomers.

5. To put the Word of God into as many hands as possible.

By the end of the series, all of these were accomplished and more. We had a number of people tell us of conversations they have had with others about The Story, conversations occurring not only in church, but also in grocery store aisles and Christmas parties! We had people outside of the parish participating as well. We believe that this program will pay dividends in the future as more members of our congregation become more familiar with the Bible.

Beginning in September, we began an Adult Education series based on the video series "I am Second." This series uses the video testimony of actors, athletes, musicians, and others combined with relevant Bible passages and stories. We hope that this series will provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living.

Please plan on joining us in the Library on Fridays at 9:00am, or Sundays following the 10:00am worship service. We have exciting things coming for Lent and Easter.
