CALLING ALL CANTERBURY FAIR CHAIRS

We will meet in Ophelia's Office right after the 10am Service, this Sunday, March 1st. We will go over a few things for this year's fair.

This is Christianna's last year chairing the fair, so she would love if someone could shadow her this year in order to be able to take over next year. This is the greatest way to get to know all the wonderful parishioners at St. George's and also help raise money for our ministries and Outreach. Please contact Christianna at [email protected]

We are also still looking for Lobster Lunch co-chairs. Please contact Christianna if you are interested, 937-367-3221.

REMINDER: As always, please hold on to your treasures for the June 13th Fair White Elephant!

Planned Giving

Those parishioners who have informed the church that they have included St. George's in their estate plans will be welcomed as members into the 1874 Society, named after the year in which St. George's was founded.

NEW DATES:

*March 15th- Deadline for name to be engraved on the memorial plaque

*April 26th - following Evensong at 4:30: unveiling of the plaque

The plaque commemorates the creation of the 1874 Society and is engraved with the names of the founding members of the 1874 Society. Each year, those persons who have provided documentation of a planned gift to St. George's will be recognized by having their name added to the plaque. Please contact the church office for a simple form to be filled out if interested!

The Annual Report: One Article Every Wed. Email (this week - the Planned Giving Report)

St. George's Planned Giving Program continues to grow slowly but surely. As of now, thirty-one (31) - an increase of four (4) -  individuals and/or families have notified St. George's that they have named the Church in their wills or indicated they will make a gift of some form at a later date to one or more of the following Planned Giving funds:.

Legacy Cornerstone Fund - to provide for the maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds of St. George's and support future special projects to add to and/or improve the quality of our facilities.
Legacy Outreach Fund - to support St. George's outreach programs and provide financial support to other worthy organizations that seek to further the mission of our Church.

Legacy Parish Life Fund -   to be used for the enrichment of worship, music, Christian education and fellowship

As of now, the status of each fund is as follows:

Legacy Cornerstone Fund - has received $192,553 in eight (8) donations and disbursed a total of $150,802 Thank youprimarily for the very important purchase and renovation of the Cadwallader house to be the residence of our Associate Rector and his family and some very necessary tree treatments and pruning.
The current remaining balance is $43,770.
Legacy Outreach Fund - has received a total of $61,770 primarily from one donor family.  Those funds remain available for use as the Vestry and Clergy see fit.
Legacy Parish Life Fund - has not received any donations but remains available to all

The 1874 Society will soon be formed to commemorate all who have in any way designated St. George's as a beneficiary.  Anyone who makes St. George's a beneficiary will become a Charter Member of the 1874 Society. Each will have their name placed in the Legacy Funds permanent record that will be displayed in the Church area and list all Charter members and, as time passes, additional contributors.

Planned Giving is an important program created to give St. George's additional funds for emergencies and special short and longer term needs.  These funds are available as needed to provide and protect St. George's now if really necessary but more so in future years.  Anything given to a Legacy Fund is not restricted to interest or income only funds availability but cannot be spent without the Legacy Funds Board of Trustees recommendation and Vestry approval.

Shortly, another copy of our Planned Giving brochure will be mailed to all with further explanation of the program and how best to join and designate one or more of the three (3) funds as your beneficiary.

Please remember a gift designation now does not necessarily involve any immediate financial payment.  Rather it is generally a future commitment that will mean a great deal to St. George's at some later date.

Please feel free to contact Ophelia, Jeff or any member of The Legacy Trust Funds Board of Trustees with any questions, requests or committments.

Respectfully submitted,

The Legacy Funds Board of Trustees

Skeptics and Suds

The next meeting of Skeptics and Suds will be held on  Monday, March 9th at Molly Maguire's 132 East River Road, Rumson. We will meet from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.

The suggested reading for this meeting can be found here.

Using short readings from contemporary, "progressive" theologians, and others who challenge the status quo of Christian interpretation, we will consider, contemplate, and debate many of the things we've been taught about God and Jesus and our faith. Can we challenge traditional interpretations of the Bible and find a spiritually meaningful understanding? If so, what might such a fresh understanding of the Scripture look like?

The discussion will be facilitated by both clergy and laity from St. George's-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson, but anyone in the community is warmly invited to participate. Whatever spiritual perspective you represent - "traditional" Christian, another faith, no faith, "spiritual but not religious" or whatever - we would love to have you join us. Contact Jeff Roy or Joel Rogers for more information.
