Did you Know?
|
Ash Wednesday is the first of the forty days of Lent, named for the custom of placing blessed ashes on the foreheads of worshipers. The ashes are a sign of penitence and a reminder of mortality, and may be imposed with the sign of the cross. Ash Wednesday is observed as a fast in the church year of the Episcopal Church. The Ash Wednesday service is one of the Proper Liturgies for Special Days in the BCP.

Tickets are $50 each. Our highly acclaimed folk, gospel, and soft rock concert consists of well-known artists from the area. The wide-ranging musical arrangement makes it entertaining for people of all ages. This year's concert will feature songs from the Eagles. The concert is followed by an elegant reception made possible by local businesses and St. George's hospitality committee. More than 200 people attended last year's concert.

The Annual Report: One Article Every Wed. Email (this week - the Assoc. Rector's Report)
|
It seems as if my annual curate reports are always about change, or transition. My first report was about the move from seminary to St. George's, New York City to the Jersey Shore. That was followed up by a transition to a more settled state of mind and ministry with everyone here at St. George's. Last year I wrote about the transition from curate to Associate Rector and the opportunity to remain here in Rumson for the foreseeable future, and the prospects of long term ministry amongst you all. 2014 was once again a year of transition, as Janine, Candace, Liam and I moved from Holmdel to 13 Lincoln, across the street from the church.
Due to the efforts of Guy Hembling and his crew, shepherded by Don Grant, Eric Carlson and the entire Building and Ground's committee, the renovation of 13 Lincoln was completed in March of 2014, and we moved in on Tuesday, April 8th. While moving immediately before Holy Week added some stress to an already busy Easter season, it was extremely beneficial for me to be so close to church during that time. It is a blessing to be so close; it has allowed me to spend more time in ministry, and less on driving back and forth to Holmdel.
Janine has also found it helpful to be close during St. George's Family Promise rotations. Being just across the street allows her to be a convenient resource for our volunteers and the visiting families as well.
There have been many benefits for our family as well. Candace and Liam were able to easily transition into the Rumson Schools and are thriving there. You can often find Liam running around the neighborhood with his friends. During the summer Candace can be found either on the beach, or on her way to the beach with her friends. Liam also spent the late summer, early fall playing left tackle for the Rumson Bulldogs youth football team. The kids love it here and have made many friends in the neighborhood.
The move also gave St. George's an opportunity to spread the Gospel and to reach out to our neighbors. On August 24th, in addition to blessing our new home, Ophelia and I blessed 9 of our neighbors' homes as well. We are all looking forward to 2015, and I am looking forward to continuing to deepen and grow my ministry with you. Janine and I are most thankful for all the work and financial support that the parish has given to have made the purchase of the house and our move possible.
Yours in Christ,
Jeff+
