Halloween Party
All 8th to 12th graders are invited to our Youth Group Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 29th, 5:30 to 8pm in Ralph Hall.  There will be food and fun... pumpkin carving, games, prizes for best and worst costume and best carved pumpkin.  Please RSVP to Brenda by Sunday the 26th so we purchase enough pumpkins.

Our Family Promise guests are returning!

 

We will be hosting our Guests from October 19 through October 25th.  

There is one slot available for an evening host and 2 overnight slots available.  Please see the sign up sheet by the water fountain in Ralph Hall, or email  Janine Lamm-Roy (jlammroy@me.com). If you are not able to participate in the above roles, please consider helping us stock the pantry, pick up/return linens to Jersey Shore Medical, or set up/tear down. Please contact Janine with any questions-- no experience is required.

 

Outerwear for Outreach
 Coat Drive
Now until the end of November, we will be  collecting coats and parkas for adults and children. The coats do not need to be cleaned, but please clean out the pockets. 
Racks are set up in Ralph Hall. 
Donations will go to Lunch Break, Project Paul and Family Promise.
Halloween Candy collection for Seamen's Church Institute

We will be collecting candy to be added to the gift bags that will be given to the mariners at Christmas. A box will be set up in Ralph Hall closer to Halloween to deposit the candy.

As you may know, the St. George's Knitters are busy all year making hand crafted garments for the mariners. For information about the Christmas at Sea Program here is the link:

Four Families in need of Furniture

 

The Center in Asbury Park is in need of living room dining room and

kitchen furniture for four families. Please contact Beth Sherrard if you

can help or if you know of someone that can help.

The Center provides a permanent

residence to 25 individuals living with HIV/AIDS and also provides

emergency placement for homeless individuals as well as rental and

utility subsidies to prevent homelessness.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE UPDATE

The following is a list of the grants approved at the October meeting of the Outreach Committee. For each grant, a committee member "researcher" visits the agency, obtains a copy of the grant request, the latest financials for the agency and comparative bids from vendors. Awards are made by committee vote.

 

Holiday Express, Tinton Falls

Holiday Express is a non-profit organization that delivers music, food, gifts, financial support, and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year. They do about 70 shows during the season. They supply parties, blankets, personal products, 4000 children get gift baskets. A grant of $1,000 was approved so that they can purchase deodorant for their hygiene goodie bags that they hand out.

 

Holy Cross Monastery, New York

It is a unique place providing opportunity for retreat to our parishioners and others, fostering growth in faith and fellowship. We approved a grant of $500 from the budget to be used for general expenses.

 

MonmouthCares, West Long Branch  

They assist families with children with emotional and behavioral challenges. They employ 37 social workers. We approved a grant of $1,500 from the budget to support the development of a Timebanking project in Monmouth County. This will leverage time and talents of community participants to support each other via service exchanges. It is a web application that will allow members to post service requests and offer their skills to one another. 

 

The Community YMCA, Asbury Park

- Y Teen Achievers Program, they send 36 children to 9 college campuses. The children are as young as 9th grade. The purpose is so that the children can envision what opportunities there would be for them. We approved a grant of $1,500 from the budget to be used for scholarships for children that are part of this program.
