FAMILY PROMISE

Thanks are due to our more than 26 Volunteers who provided a warm environment and delicious meals (and listening hearts, and acted as tireless playmates!) for our Family Promise Guests this past week. This ministry is truly a team effort, and I am so thankful for each of you and all that you do to support this endeavor! I look forward to our next round of Hosting, currently scheduled for late December!!

Soul Kitchen and Family Promise, Working Together

We are delighted to announce that Soul Kitchen in Red Bank and Family Promise have worked out a plan to come together for Family Promise Guests!

As of this past week, Soul Kitchen has extended an open reservation on Friday Evenings for all the Family Promise Guests. Each host congregation may decide to take advantage of this offer, and Family Promise will drive the Guests to the restaurant before bringing them to the host church for the night! St. George's was the first to try this out, and it was such a lovely evening out for the Guests.

Many thanks go to the Sulak Family, who volunteer at Soul Kitchen. It was their brainchild to link these two organizations together, and their efforts are working wonders!

There is no limit to what can be achieved through faithfulness!!

CHURCH SCHOOL

Attention Parents:
Church School will begin on Sunday, September 14th.
You are able to register on-line at our website, or look for registration forms in Ralph Hall starting August 16th.  Official Church School Registration Sunday will be September 7th.
We are in need of Church School teachers for each grade!
If we have 6-8 parents teach for each class, then you will only teach once ever other month.  What a great way to be involved in our children's faith formation, and it is fun!!!
We also have a great new Episcopal program this year called Weaving God's Promise.
to learn about it.

Backpack and School Supplies Collection

for

Foster and Adoptive Services

August 10th thru September 14th

We are starting our annual collection of backpacks and school supplies for donation to Foster and Adoptive Services. Any school supplies would be greatly appreciated (backpacks, pencils, markers, notebooks, rulers, erasers, crayons). There are sales for school items currently at Staples, Target, Walmart.

Last year 47 backpacks filled with school supplies were collected. The children who received these were thrilled!

Containers will be set up in Ralph Hall for you to drop off supplies. The backpacks will be brought to the altar and blessed on

Sunday, September 14th.

Foster and Adoptive Services is headquartered in Monmouth Junction. They are the leading statewide advocacy agency for foster and adoptive parents. They provide support, training and advocacy to meet the special needs of foster, adoptive and kinship families, who provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children in foster care.

"Heaven is for Real"

We will be watching:

Heaven is for Real

following the 10am service on

Sunday, August 17th

in the library.

Thanks to June Gordon!

"Heaven Is for Real is the story of Colton Burpo, the four-year-old son of Pastor Todd Burpo from Imperial, Nebraska who says he experienced Heaven during emergency surgery. He talked about looking down to see the doctor operating, his mother calling people to pray in the waiting room and his father in another room yelling at God. The family did not know what to believe."

ST. GEORGE'S 2014 RAFFLE!

Only about 3 weeks to go until the drawing on Aug. 29.

Not much time left for you to possibly win a $5,000 or $3,000 vacation voucher or an Apple gift certificate valued at $600. And you will be helping the parish meet its commitment to our Outreach programs which lend a hand to those less fortunate in our community. As of Aug.4, we have 182 raffle tickets sold toward our goal of 600. While we have a long way to go to reach this goal, we are encouraged by the fact that 27 parishioners have sold and/or bought all 5 of their tickets. Each will receive his/her free attendance to the Canterbury Art Show catered reception (a $40 value) on Friday, Aug. 29 from 7 to 9 pm. If you haven't already done so, won't you please consider selling or buying your own tickets? The Raffle drawing will take place that evening at 7:45 pm and winners need not be present. If you cannot sell all 5 tickets, please consider at least selling or buying 2 of them. We are most grateful for your efforts, large and small.
