The Beginning of a New Adult Ed. Series!
Join us as we roll out "I am Second."
The series will consist of a DVD - stories of individuals struggling with the "typical struggles of everyday living," along with a corresponding Bible story and discussion. All welcome and encouraged to join us.
This series will also be offered on Sundays, beginning this Sunday following the 10:00am service.

YOUTH SUNDAY

This Sunday, May 25th is Youth Sunday!  Please join us at the 10am Mass to celebrate with the children who will be the Readers, Ushers and Altar Guild.  Thanks to all the children who have volunteered: Sophia Bocklage, Tessa French, Rory McGill, Lily Perrine, Liam Roy, Reagan and AnnaBeth Volk, and Tim and Lillian WiselyIf you want your child to help, please email Brenda.
  
Walk with St. George's in the  
Rumson Memorial Day Parade!american-flag-wavy.jpg 
On Monday, May 25th, we will walk together in the Rumson Memorial Day Parade.  Line-up starts at 9:30 at Blackpoint Road, between Bingham and Forrest.  The walk begins at 10am and is less than a mile ending at Victory Park. Fr. Jeff will drive his Jeep, as we walk with our banner and throw candy to the crowds. Children, adults and families of all ages welcome!  Please RSVP to Brenda.
CONFIRMATION
St. George's will be hosting Bishop Stokes on June 22nd for Confirmation, Reception, and the Reaffirmation of faith.
Vestry members will have lunch with the Bishop and his wife following the coffee hour.

What is Reaffirmation of Faith?
It is an opportunity (for any who have been previously baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church) to recommit their lives in a deeper way to their life in Christ.  Any choosing to Reaffirm their Faith are given the opportunity to reclaim their baptismal vows and receive the prayers and blessing of the Bishop.
 
What is Reception?
I
t is for those who have been confirmed in another denomination by a bishop in the apostolic succession (most often Roman Catholic or Orthodox) and wish to become Episcopalians.Pl ease consult with Ophelia or Jeff if you are interested in being Received.

Sunday June 1st
is Canterbury pick up day!  Keith Harvey has offered to drive around and pick up various items for the Fair between the hours of 1-5pm.  If you would like him to pick up things from your home please email me at

Sunday, June 8th is White Elephant drop off!

 

Please hold onto "treasurers" for our White Elephant sale and remember that we are also selling new and gently used children's clothing again this year.  We can't forget about all of our other fabulous areas in the Fair like Jewelry, Shabby Chic and Books!  If you have anything to donate to these areas hold on to them and bring them on White Elephant Sunday, June 8th starting at 11am. 

Books!  This year we will be selling the books by the bag!!!  $5 a bag of books all day (no discounts), we will need paper bags preferably with a handle (Trader Joe's or Sickles). 

Canterbury Kitchen and Tea Garden can always use donations, if you are willing to donate baked goods, small frozen meals, soups, casseroles please reach out to Joan Mercer (Canterbury Kitchen) or Pat Geiss (Tea Garden).

Silent Auction needs your help!  We are in need of donations; boats, cars, bikes, vacation homes, art work, antiques, even services like tennis lessons or sailing lessons are all fabulous for the Auction.  We are still looking for committee members if you have any time before the Fair it would be appreciated!  If you are interested in helping with Silent Auction please contact Christianna Harvey at ctharvey2@gmail.com or 937.367.3221. 

Children's Clothing and Toys, we are asking for clean, in usable condition and suitable for resale items.  There will be a bin in Ralph Hall starting June 1st for clothing and toys.  Please mark them Kids Clothing.  If you have any questions please email Katherine Singleton at kesingleton@comcast.net.

Following is a list of the grants approved at the May meeting of the Outreach Committee.  For each grant, a committee member "researcher" visits the agency, obtains a copy of the grant request, the latest financials for the agency and comparative bids from vendors.  After discussing the grant requests in great detail the committee votes on whether to award the grant or not.

  • Family Promise, Middletown - as one of 12 host churches, St. George's provides food and shelter for temporarily homeless families from Monmouth County on a rotational basis. A grant of $2,500 was approved to be used for general operating expenses. 
  • New Destinies 4Kidz, Asbury Park - A Christian based camp program for children from Asbury Park who have a parent that is incarcerated. The program offers worship, song, activities and mentoring.  A grant of  $1,400 was approved to underwrite Camp Promise fees for 3 campers and one counselor. 
  • 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet - a non-profit organization providing a continuum of prevention crisis, emergency shelter and longer term intervention services, to women, men, and children impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence. A grant of $2,000 was approved to be used for the purchase of 2 laptops for the 24 hour youth helpline. 
  •  The Center, Asbury Park - provides support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers. A grant of $1,966 was approved for the purchase of a new washer and dryer. 
RED BANK RESOURCE NETWORK
AND SANDY WELLNESS

The Red Bank Resource Network & Sandy Wellness Program will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, May 31st from 1:00-3:00 pm. They are inviting residents of Monmouth County to come to the open house for an opportunity to see their space, get introduced to the services they provide, and to meet their resource specialists and Hurricane Sandy counseling staff.

The next book group will be on Monday, June 2 at 7:30pm when we will be discussing "Steve Jobs," by Walter Isaacson. Spread the word and invite a friend (men are always welcome and encouraged to attend). This is a book everyone will love! Any questions, please contact Liz Gearon.

FAMILY CAREGIVING

What you Need to Know

 

SCAN, in partnership with the Monmouth County Office on Aging, is offering a caregiver support workshop which will be professionally facilitated.  The sessions will alternate between support groups and education sessions

tailored specifically for family caregivers.

 

Topics covered include: Preparing to be a caregiver, Where to find help,

Transitions (end of life issues), Self Care

 

Sessions are at SCAN:  5/20, 6/3, 6/17,7/1, 7/15
