(note: Jim and Kathleen' Contemplative Prayer group does NOT meet this Sunday).
The Story
We would like to invite everyone to join us in the reading of The Story. Or if you have been following along at home we invite you to join us on Friday mornings at 9:00am or Sunday's after the 10:00 service for spirited discussion of the materials.
We are reading chapter  23, which is the start of Jesus earthly ministry. I can think of no better Lenten discipline than to spend time reading and contemplating scripture and God's story.
There are additional copies of The Story available in the narthex, along with our other Lenten devotional materials. Register here if you are interested in receiving weekly Story emails.
The Girls Friendly Society
The next meeting of the Girls Friendly Society will be on Sunday, March 16th in the Pine Room. We will meet from 11:15pm - 12:15pm and lunch will be served.

Our theme for this session will be Restraint and Self-Discipline and we will be participating in our very own St. George's Great GFS Lenten Challenge!

During the week beginning Wednesday, March 5th - Wednesday, March 12th the girls will be asked to sacrifice (or limit the use of) something they are very attached to such as electronics, a type of food, texting, etc. and report back to the group on their successes, feelings, and thoughts about the challenges they faced.

We will ask that they journal about their experience and bring it to the meeting on 3/16.  We will discuss and share our experiences. If your daughter is unable to attend the session, she is welcomed to participate in the challenge and just hand in, or email, her journal

Following is a list of the grants approved at the November meeting of the Outreach Committee.  For each grant, a committee member "researcher" visits the agency, obtains a copy of the grant request, the latest financials for the agency and comparative bids from vendors.  After discussing the grant requests in great detail the committee votes on whether to award the grant or not.

Manna House, Cliffwood Beach - a transitional housing facility for women working toward regaining independent living, and their children.  A grant of $2,160 was approved to replace a security door and frame and lights in the kitchen.

Saturday Soup Kitchen, Trinity Church, Asbury Park - they provide a sit-down hot lunch each Saturday for up to 220 guests.  A grant of $500 was approved to purchase food.

Save the Dates for our 2014 Canterbury Art Show - Labor Day Weekend -  August 29, 30, 31!

Save the date for our third annual Canterbury Art Show...a Tapestry of the Arts. St. George's-by-the-River, with over a century of history, is a spectacular setting for the fabulous artwork we will be hanging within its walls. The Canterbury Art Show...a Tapestry of the Arts, is a premier local exhibition and sale of artwork.

Proceeds from the Canterbury Art Show will directly benefit St.George's-by-the-River and its outreach programs.

The Outreach committee is pleased to announce that St. George's has been chosen as a recipient of a Diocesan Jubilee Ministries grant. This $500.00 grant will go towards building a secure storage space for all of our Family Promise related supplies. With the help of Rob List, Robby Gearon has agreed to take on this as his Eagle Scout project. Bob Winters, of the Outreach Committee commented, "It's a nice story involving the church, Family Promise, the Boy Scouts and the Diocese for providing the funding."
