In 1990, George H.W. Bush was President, the popular series Twin Peaks premiered on ABC, neon colored tops were in style and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) was born! July 1st marked the beginning of our new fiscal year and also the 25th anniversary of our affiliate!
Anniversaries give us an opportunity to celebrate the past while also building momentum for the future. We are proud that we have built, rehabilitated and repaired more than 1,000 homes locally and worldwide.
Habitat LA has a goal to invest $100 million, over the next five years, to help more hardworking, low-income families and individuals as well as revitalize neighborhoods across greater LA. We will also celebrate our silver anniversary at our Los Angeles Builders Ball on October 14th!

POWER WOMEN, POWER TOOLS 2015!

More than 200 "Power Women" came out to build at Habitat LA's Power Women, Power Tools event presented by Lowe's on Saturday, June 6. This year's event was held at Habitat LA's headquarters in Bellflower. Women from the entertainment, education, faith and corporate sectors were pretty, pink and powerful as they spent the day framing walls for future Habitat LA homes in Inglewood.
Maureen Ausura, Lowe's Chief Human Resources Officer, and 25 Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers were joined by many supporters from the entertainment industry including: Actress Camilla Belle, Actress Kate Linder, Radio Personality Pat Prescott, Comedienne Paula Poundstone and Actress Lisa Whelchel.
Thank you to Lowe's, Burgner Experiential, Duane Morris LLP, Platinum Equity LLC, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Variety, Paul Mitchell, BNSF Railway, and all of our volunteers for another successful year in helping us to celebrate Power Women in our local communities. View event photos HERE.

SITE BLESSING BY ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ

Archbishop Gomez, of the nation's largest Catholic Archdiocese, paid a visit to our seven home site on Magnolia in Lynwood. He blessed each home and spent time with each of the future partner homeowners.
Archbishop Gomez also blessed the work of Habitat LA's Catholic Coalition, which helped to build and sponsor one of the homes. The inaugural Catholic Builds home is being purchased by the Rendon's. Maria is a Catholic school teacher and Ricardo is a retired US Navy Veteran.
We are grateful for the Archbishop's support in ensuring that individuals and families have access to decent and affordable housing. To learn more about our Catholic Coalition, please contact Chris Untiet, Director of Faith Relations, at [email protected].

Homeownership:Habitat LA has new homeownership opportunities on the horizon. Please visit our website for periodic application updates! Manufactured Home Repair Loan Program: Habitat LA recently launched a new home repair program specifically for manufactured homeowners. This loan program helps address interior and exterior health and safety repair needs. Homeowners finance their repairs through a 0% interest, deferred payment loan provided by Habitat LA. No down payments, or monthly payments, are required for 30 years. Home Repair Program: Habitat LA is looking to serve low-income homeowners with home repair needs through its Home Repair Program. Depending on available funding, eligible homeowners receive assistance with interior and exterior repairs including exterior painting, accessibility modifications, window, door and roof replacements, landscaping, and more. Special funding for veteran or military households in need of home repairs is available now. For more information on upcoming information sessions or program criteria, visit our website.

HERNANDEZ FAMILY HOME DEDICATION

Ines Hernandez is our newest Habitat LA homeowner in Lynwood! Ines, who is a single, working mother, received the keys to her three bedroom home at a recent dedication. In order to become a Habitat LA homeowner, Ines completed homeownership education classes and 250 hours of sweat equity volunteering with Habitat LA. Ines also has good credit and will pay back a zero interest mortgage.
Thank you to Ernst & Young LLP, The South Bay Workforce Investment Board, CCEO YouthBuild and the City of Lynwood for their contributions to this project and our overall work.
