Happy New Year from all of us at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA)! Thank you for your support in 2014 and especially for making our year-end matching gift challenge such a success. Your support will ensure a productive 2015 for us and we hope you will join us in building homes and hope throughout the year. One way you can do this is with your California state tax return.
We look forward to building a greater LA and a better California with you this year! |

MIMILA FAMILY HOME DEDICATION
| |
Thanks to support from Thrivent Financial, the City of Long Beach and The Long Beach Community Investment Company, Habitat LA was able to welcome the Mimila's home for the holidays.
Before partnering with Habitat LA, Ignacio Mimila cared for his four children in a small, one-bedroom apartment in Long Beach. After the passing of his dear wife due to breast cancer in 2010, Ignacio made a promise to do everything in his power to provide his children with a home.
"Thanks to Thrivent, Habitat LA, volunteers, the City of Long Beach and The Long Beach Community Investment Company, my children and I will live comfortably and I will finally fulfill the promise I made to my wife who is now resting in peace," said Ignacio.
The Mimila home is the ninth Thrivent Builds home in greater LA as well as Habitat LA's 75th home in the City of Long Beach! Thrivent Financial plans to build two more homes with Habitat LA in 2015. Read the full press release HERE.

Satisfy your sense of adventure this February and support Habitat LA by purchasing an interactive tour from Urban Adventure Quest! When you purchase a tour, questions and clues will be fed to you through your smartphone. As you solve these clues and complete challenges, you will experience a city's famous sites and hidden gems. This scavenger hunt style tour exists in more than 30 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada!
Mark your calendar to purchase your adventure during the month of February. Urban Adventure Quest will then donate 25% of all February sales to Habitat LA. Find out more HERE.
Habitat LA was a natural choice as a non-profit partner for the Urban Adventure Quest team. All three of the company's owners have ventured out of the country to build with Habitat for Humanity internationally. Read a guest blog post about their trip with us to Vietnam HERE.

INTERRELIGIOUS COUNCIL BUILD DAY AND DONATION
| |

On December 9th, 2014 the Interreligious Council of Southern California commemorated 45 years of service in the region with a build day and $5,000 donation to Habitat LA.
The build day took place in Lynwood where seven Habitat LA homes are being built. Volunteers, media and community members heard from Habitat LA partner homebuyer, Veronica Hernandez, who is purchasing one of the homes.
One of the seven homes being built on the site has been designated "The Interfaith House." We are thrilled to be serving alongside the Interreligious Council of Southern California as part of our Interfaith Initiative and as we complete our first Interfaith House.
Check out great coverage from our December 9th build day and check presentation HERE.

LEGACY GIFTS: HELPING HABITAT LA FAMILIES
| |
We are most grateful to those members of the Habitat LA Legacy Society who have made bequest commitments. Bequests are the foundation which ensures that Habitat LA will be here to provide first-time homeownership and life changing experiences for many families far into the future.
We encourage all of our donors to explore the Charitable Gift Annuity, a gift arrangement with Habitat LA that in return provides income to our donors for life. Income is fixed, guaranteed, and pays high returns to our donors. In addition, a portion of the income is tax free and you can earn an income tax deduction that can reduce taxes.
To learn more about how about how you can personally benefit from having a charitable gift annuity with Habitat LA click HERE. On this page you can calculate the amount of your income and value of your income deduction.
You can make a difference in the lives of the families who partner with Habitat LA. Donors who make Bequests and Charitable Gift Annuities will be recognized as members of the Habitat LA Legacy Society. For more information contact: Les Fujimoto, Habitat LA's Director of Major Gifts. Les' direct line is (424) 246-3634 or he can be reached at [email protected].
