NATIONAL WOMEN BUILD WEEK
|
Holly Robinson Peete and Partner Homebuyer Maria Rendon
Holly Robinson Peete served as the national spokeswoman for National Women Build Week (NWBW) for the second year in a row. NWBW encourages women to devote at least one day during the week leading up to Mother's Day building affordable housing in their local communities. This week also spotlights homeownership challenges faced by women.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD

This past month our Community Engagement department attended an inaugural Community Engagement Symposium at California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). The symposium provided us with an opportunity to talk about our programs with students and other attendees. It also showcased the work of students, faculty and staff via poster displays and power point presentations. HFH GLA received a Community Partnership Award at the end of the day. Other awardees included L.A. Galaxy, West Basin Municipal Water District and Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum.

MEET A MAGNOLIA PARTNER HOMEOWNER

Our Magnolia Avenue development in Lynwood is made up of seven homes that are currently under construction. The Rendon's are one of our recently selected partner families!
Maria and Ricardo Rendon are newlyweds who are looking forward to moving into a home where they can start their married life together. Currently they share a home with Ricardo's parents, brother and Maria's two daughters. Ricardo's son and daughter also visit often on weekends and during school vacations. The Rendon's believe this home will provide a fresh start where they can raise their children and grow closer as a family.

ReSTORE DONATION DRIVES

HFH GLA's ReStore Donation Drives are a great way to earn funds for your church or organization while supporting HFH GLA's work. The program is simple. HFH GLA will deliver an empty truck trailer for you to fill and be there to help load and pack it on the date of your event. For a comprehensive list of items we do and do not accept, click HERE. For every full 48' trailer your organization will receive $1,500 to use toward your youth group, general operating costs, or a specific outreach initiative. To learn more click HERE.
Our ReStores are open 5 days/week (Tuesday - Saturday, 9am-6pm) at 2 Locations:
17700 S. Figueroa St.

O.A.R BUILD DAY

The band O.A.R. played a three night residency at The Troubadour in West Hollywood in May, but they also played an acoustic set at our Magnolia build site in Lynwood, CA! They recently came out to build and paint with us along with 40 of their fans who made a donation to HFH GLA. The build day helped to kick off their summer tour where they will donate a portion of ticket sales to Habitat for Humanity. Thank you to O.A.R. and their fans for a great build day that hit all the right notes. To view all the pictures, click HERE.

NSP FAMILY HOME DEDICATIONS

Francisco Gomez Family
At HFH GLA home dedications are celebrations where we share memories and gratitude for all of the hard work it takes to build each home. Home dedications take many forms. Sometimes they are big celebrations and other times, like our recent NSP family home dedications, they are more intimate.
We have been fortunate to visit some of our more recent partner homeowners in their beautiful homes to offer a blessing and bring them a bible and flowers. We would like to congratulate and officially welcome the homeowners listed below into our Habitat family. We also look forward to more NSP family home dedications in the coming months!

OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE CHANGING THE WORLD!

Did you know that HFH GLA has more than 10,000 volunteers building with us on an annual basis? Some of our volunteers have been building with us for twenty plus years and started out helping during the weekends and now in their retirement are building once a week. Our volunteers have a true desire to help others who are in need of a home to call their own.
Some volunteers have decided to continue to help Habitat even after they are no longer here. We are proud to list them as members of our Legacy Society. Did you know you can make a future gift to Habitat by simply adding a provision in your will? A future gift of 2.5% of your total estate can make a big difference for Habitat and can help provide affordable homes for families in the future.
