The highly anticipated design event will bring together VIPs and tastemakers for three days of receptions, keynote panel discussions, cocktail parties, exhibitions, book signings, personal appearances and special events. THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION GRANT

HFH GLA is thrilled to be the recipient of a $300,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation. The grant will be used to provide critical home repairs to 25 low-income veteran homeowners and their families through our Critical Home Repair for Veterans program. This program has been successful because of the generosity of The Home Depot Foundation along with several other companies, individuals and faith communities.
Ensuring that veterans have safe homes is one very important way that HFH GLA is serving this population.
There are many veterans in greater Los Angeles who need our help! If you'd like to make a contribution to support our Critical Home Repair for Veterans program, please contact VP of Development Jennifer Wise at [email protected] or mail a check with CHRV in the memo line to: 17700 S. Figueroa Street, Gardena, CA 90248.

On Saturday, April 19th, HFH GLA hosted its inaugural Singles Build Day at our Magnolia site in Lynwood. This event brought together nearly 30 men and women to build and potentially meet their perfect match. These socially conscious singles raised more than $3,000 to help eliminate substandard housing in greater Los Angeles! This fun day included a photo booth, music, lots of mingling and a delicious lunch donated by Buca Di Beppo. Only time will tell if our builders found their Mr. or Ms. Right on our Habitat site.

HABITAT GLOBAL VILLAGE MALAWI

Article by HFH GLA Volunteer and Actress Ashley Noel:
My head has been spinning ever since returning from my first Global Village trip with Habitat for Humanity. I have been a volunteer with Habitat Los Angeles for the past few years. They are by far one of my favorite organizations to work with (and I've worked with my fair share of charities). Habitat is the living expression of the proverb "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime". This truly is the way to change the world. And by giving people the basic need of shelter, we are able to lay the foundation for a better life, education, and so much more.
After my last Hollywood for Habitat Build, I decided to embark on my first international Habitat build. I wanted to travel to Africa, so I chose Malawi. Or Malawi chose me.

LIFE INSURANCE: A COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO MAKE A GIFT

One of the most overlooked assets to consider when making a gift to HFH GLA is life insurance. Many individuals hold policies that have outlived their need. They have been paid up for years, and the cash value continues to increase. As circumstances change the benefit may have become unnecessary to one's former needs. An insurance policy of this nature can make an excellent gift to an organization such as HFH GLA and provide significant benefits to you, the donor. To see how this gift works, click HERE.
The Benefits
Making an outright gift of an existing life insurance policy entitles the donor to an immediate income tax deduction. Transferring ownership of a life insurance policy to HFH GLA may also save estate taxes. When an existing life insurance policy is transferred to a charitable organization the cash value of the policy is not considered taxable income. However, any outstanding loans made against the policy may be treated as taxable income. Each situation should be reviewed carefully prior to transferring ownership to HFH GLA.
Transferring Ownership is Easy
The owner of an existing life insurance policy simply contacts the issuing insurance company and secures the proper form to assign the change of ownership. The donor must irrevocably transfer ownership to the charity and name the charity as the designated beneficiary of the policy.
Consider Life Insurance
Life insurance can be a most viable asset to consider when planning an outright or a deferred gift that returns income to you. Talk with your advisors and our gift planning representative to help maximize the best gift planning opportunities available to you.
The information shown here is not intended as legal advice. For legal or tax advise HFH GLA recommends contacting your advisor. For more information in confidence and without obligation, contact Jennifer M. Wise, Vice President of Resource Development, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, 17700 S.
