THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION'S
CELEBRATION OF SERVICE
On September 5th, Team Depot volunteers transformed the home of Navy veteran Lidia Perez as part of the third annual Celebration of Service. Lidia Perez participated in two tours of duty and is a single mom who now works as a CO2 technician to support her family. Lidia chose "battleship gray" as the new paint color for her home to reflect her Navy pride. Click HERE to see more photos from the day and HERE to see coverage from KTLA's Gayle Anderson.

9-11 INTERFAITH BUILD DAY
| |
Chris Untiet, HFH GLA Faith Relations Manager, and Milia Islam Majeed, Executive Director of the South Coast Interfaith Council.
In memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th, HFH GLA invited volunteers from diverse faith and spiritual traditions to participate in an inaugural Interfaith Build Day in Long Beach. The special build day also tied in with HFH GLA's ongoing Interfaith Initiative that is bringing together different faiths to build, educate and advocate for affordable housing here in the U.S. and around the world. Those interested in getting more involved should contact Chris Untiet, HFH GLA Faith Relations Manager at chrisu@habitatla.org. Click HERE to view photos from the day.

Construction on the third Habitat for Humanity home in Long Beach to be built in partnership with Delta Air Lines is underway! "THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME" BUILD DAY
| |
Jimmy Mulligan, muralist from Chuck Jones Center for Creativity
Volunteers from Warner Bros. and IMAX kicked off the "There's No Place Like Home" campaign with Habitat for Humanity by rolling up their sleeves to paint a Wizard of Oz mural at the Burnett Neighborhood Library and by helping us build a new home in Long Beach! The campaign is part of the 75th Anniversary celebration of The Wizard of Oz and includes a digital fundraising component, as well as a number of themed initiatives and events around the country, all in support of Habitat for Humanity's mission to create affordable housing in partnership with hardworking, low-income families. We were so excited to have the opportunity to bring elements of this iconic movie to our build site and a local library in one of the neighborhoods we serve. Click HERE to see pictures of the unveiling of the mural, our yellow brick road and more!
