The Downtown Evanston Sidewalk Sale

The Downtown Evanston Sidewalk Sale kicks off on Friday, July 25th! In  addition to great discounts and events, shoppers should be on the lookout for open air artists who will be painting in Fountain Square. Passersby can stop and watch these professional artists create one-of-a-kind masterpieces and will even have the opportunity to purchase these pieces right off the easel. Also in Fountain Square, kids will have the opportunity to make their mark on downtown with tons of sidewalk chalk. Kids and families can feel free to hang out and create their own masterpieces on the sidewalks in and around the fountain!

In between stops, shoppers can jam to the tunes of a live DJ or participate in free outdoor exercise classes and demos provided by local fitness groups and studios. Those looking for a more relaxed activity can play against friends and strangers on the life-sized chess and jenga sets around downtown! With great deals and great activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Downtown Evanston Sidewalk Sale!

Storytelling in the Snug at The Celtic Knot

July 27, 8pm

Storytelling in the Snug with Michael Reno. Michael Reno Harrell is an award winning songwriter, as well as a veteran storyteller and entertainer, and he's from the South... the Southern Appalachian Mountains to hone it a bit finer... One could compare Michael's performances to his granddaddy's pocket knife: well warn and familiar feeling, but razor sharp and with a point.

There will be NO COVER CHARGE for this wonderful event, but we will "pass the hat" for Michael that evening. **PLEASE NOTE** Seating in the Snug is very limited. Come early to reserve your seats, have a meal in our dining room, and then retire with your drinks to the coziness of the Snug for storytelling!! Reservations for dinner and storytelling or for storytelling alone are strongly recommended.

Productions at Northwestern's Theatre & Interpretation Center

The Hundred Dresses
Now through July 27 | Hal and Martha Hyer Wallis Theater | 1949 Campus Drive

Wanda Petronski -- the new girl at school -- claims to have 100 beautiful dresses at home - despite wearing the same faded blue dress every day. Classmate Maddie Martin joins the rest of the kids at the elementary school in teasing Wanda for speaking strangely, having a funny last name and living in the wrong part of town. When the teasing gets out of hand, Maddie is faced with a tough decision. More here

The Pirates of Penzance
Through August 2 | Ethel M. Barber Theater | 30 Arts Circle Drive

Let your imagination set sail in this ridiculous and playfully interactive production that catapults Victorian era pirates into the chaos of the modern age! Just as wacky and hilarious today as it was when it first opened in 1879, the beauty and whimsy of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic score is suffused in this new 90 minute adaptation with a modern sensibility, hilarious comic timing, and thrilling fight choreography. More here!

Kids Brave and True
July 26 at 7:30pm | Hal & Martha Hyer Wallis Theater | 1949 Campus Drive

Join master storyteller and Northwestern faculty member Rives Collins for an evening of songs and stories that celebrate the hero in all of us.  Complementing the themes addressed in the summer encore production of THE HUNDRED DRESSES, this evening of storytelling will showcase the breadth of human compassion and courage across generations for children old and young alike.
