Meat? The Animals in and Around Us, Paintings and Prints by Juliane von Kunhardt. Meet the artist and share your thoughts. This show is the result of a one year intense examination of our food culture and buying behavior. Juliane, the mother of four, studied art in Italy and Germany and then made her way to Evanston. She has had several Art Shows in Germany and the USA and is known for her witty depictions of chickens and goats. More info here

 

 

Evanston's Public Art Committee Launches Outdoor "Yarn Bomb"

February 8th, noon - 4pm 

The City of Evanston's Public Art Committee is excited to announce Evanston's first "yarn bombing" on Saturday, February 8 from noon to 4 p.m., located at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. The event marks the official launch of the Committee's "Evanston Winter HeARTh" series, featuring community-sourced temporary public art installations throughout the city. 

"Yarn bombing" participants will work together to complete a mural that will be displayed outside of the library, as well as work on tree-wrappings for the trunks of the trees located in front of the library. The event is open to all knitters, crocheters and fabric artists of all ages and experience levels. Participants are asked to bring their own yarn and encouraged to start knitting today to get more pieces incorporated in the final installation.

Register for W.O.W. 2014! WOW

Women Out Walking (W.O.W.) is a 12 week walking program designed to encourage women in Evanston to lead healthier lifestyles and become more physically active. Using walking as the foundation, individuals and teams of women are asked to track their steps and seek to improve their activity level on a weekly basis. Registration for WOW is now open. Participants are encouraged to register before the March 22, 2014 Kick-Off Event.

Enter the Poetry Competition at the Evanston Public Library

The Evanston Public Library is pleased to announce the annual poetry competition funded by an endowment to the Library in memory of Jo-Anne Hirshfield. The Jo-Anne Hirshfield Memorial Poetry Awards competition is open to all students, kindergarten through the eighth grade, attending an Evanston elementary or middle school or residing in Evanston, and all high school students and adults in the Chicago area. This year's guest judge will be Kevin Stein. For award categories and prizes, visit here! --the entry deadline is Friday, March 28, 2014.

 

 

The Evanston Art Center launches it's first Artist-In-Residence program - "The Living Studio" 

 

The Evanston Art Center welcomes artist Ben Whitehouse to the Living Studio work space from January 6 - April 13, 2014! The Living Studio will be an ongoing residency program. Interested individuals are encouraged to join us for the following Sunday afternoon open Living Studio session: Sunday, February 9 from 1 to 4pm, when you can stop in and see what Ben is working on. Sessions are free and open to the public. Additionally, Ben will be conducting a workshop on Saturday, March 22 from noon to 4pm.

Al, a young man from modest means, is about to marry the boss's daughter and take over the business. After a night of partying, he commits a hit and run, but is urged by his friends to flee the scene so as to protect his future. Racked with guilt, he anonymously inquires about the victim at the hospital, yet still cannot bring himself to confess. Unbeknownst to  him, he is recognized by Juliette, who witnessed the whole thing and contacted the victim's wife Vera, a Moldavian illegal immigrant. Juliette pursues Al and demands him to come forth. However, as they each reveal their own emotional upheavals, the situation proves even more complicated than anyone could have expected.

Who is Downtown Evanston?
Downtown Evanston provides marketing and management services to the downtown Evanston Illinois district and is a 501(c) (6) non-profit corporation.  The district that Downtown Evanston is responsible for is the Special Service Area 4 (SSA4), Illinois' equivalent of a Business Improvement District (BID). Established in 1987,  Downtown Evanston is governed by a Board of Directors and works in partnership with the city of Evanston.
