Evanston's Davis Street Fishmarket Celebrates 29 Years of Lobster!

Davis Street Fishmarket celebrated its 29th Annual LobsterFest on January 2, 2014! The celebration continues through February 12 with the signature 1.25 pound live, whole lobster dinner for only $19.95.  Additional lobster specials include Lobster Fritters, Lobster Deviled Eggs, Lobster Scampi, Lobster Diablo, Lobster Jambalaya, Lobster Thermidor, Lobster Mac-n-Cheese, Lobster Rolls and more! Executive Chef Jeffery Perin will teach an lobstercooking class on Wednesday, January 15. The three-course lobster class with tastings is $49. This 3-week series provides a thorough introduction to the basic breathing techniques and postures of Hatha Yoga. If you're intimidated by group classes, or you've been away from yoga for a long time and you want to review, this is the class for you.

Diverse Evanston Walks United

Please join Y.O.U. for their 8th annual Diverse Evanston Walks United(DEWU), a community-wide celebration of peace, diversity, unity, leadership and service held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

 

This year's DEWU will feature original songs, choreography, dramatic performances, and visual art pieces created by youth. The event will also feature guest speakers around the theme of "What It Takes," in honor of the perseverance and resilience of Civil Rights leaders.

 

DEWU will take place on Monday, January 20th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Music Institute's Nichols Concert Hall at 1490 Chicago Ave. (Following the performances, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., we are also pleased to offer a free lunch and reception with anti-violence activities.)

 

 

Day of Celebration Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre and Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center (FJCC) will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through music, dance, spoken word and inspirational stories. The Evanston Art Center launches it's first Artist-In-Residence program - "The Living Studio" 

 

The Evanston Art Center is pleased to announce an energetic new program called The Living Studio. The Living Studio is a community-based artist-in-residence program that provides a meaningful platform for local and national artists to transparently make and share knowledge about their artistic practices and processes and at the same time offer an opportunity for our various audiences to interact with a practicing artist in the act of making work.  

 

The Evanston Art Center welcomes artist Ben Whitehouse to the Living Studio work space from January 6 - April 13, 2014! The Living Studio will be an ongoing residency program with a second artist to be selected in the spring of 2014 for a late summer / fall engagement period. Interested individuals are encouraged to join us for the following Sunday afternoon open Living Studio sessions: Sundays, January 12 and February 9 from 1 to 4pm, when you can stop in and see what Ben is working on. On Sunday, April 6 Ben will give a more formal gallery talk. All of these sessions are free and open to the public. Additionally, Ben will be conducting a workshop on Saturday, March 22 from noon to 4pm. Please watch EAC's web site for further details on this special workshop: www.evanstonartcenter.org.
