In this series, we will explore some of the fundamental skills that support a successful meditation practice. By the last session, participants will learn a coherent set of pranayama and meditations from the ParaYoga® tradition.  April's focus will be on heart-centered techniques.   


Evanston Public Library Spring Book Sale
Book lovers, Evanston Public Library will be hosting its Spring Book Sale from April 12 - 14, in  the Book Sale Room of the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. All proceeds from the sale will benefit Evanston Public Library's programs and collection. A Special Preview Sale will be held on Friday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to noon, admission is $5 per person. Regular Book Sale Hours: Friday, April 12: noon - 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13: 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14: noon - 5:30 p.m., all books, CDs and DVDs will be half-price.

Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program Job Fair - April 20 and 27

Evanston youth age 14 -18 years can choose to attend the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program's annual Job Fair on April 20 or 27, 2013. The fair will take place both days from 8am - 3pm at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.  

Youth are encouraged to fill out a Summer Youth Employment Program application in advance online at www.cityofevanston.org/youth.  

 

In order to be eligible to attend the job fair, youth must be enrolled in school, be at least 14 years of age when the Youth Employment Program begins in mid-June and live only in ZIP codes 60201 or 60202. For more information, visit www.cityofevanston.org/youth.

Midwest Urban District Forum - May 20-21 

Downtown Evanston and the International Downtown Association have partnered to bring the first Midwest Urban District Forum to downtown Evanston, May 20-21!

 

The forum will focus on Arts Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and will be taking place at the Hilton Orrington/Evanston Hotel.

Downtown Evanston Farmers' Market

The Downtown Evanston Farmers' Market will open for its 38th season on Saturday, May 4. Market hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 2. Featuring more than 50 vendors offering fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, eggs, flavored oils, pasta and bakery items, as well as flowers and plants! The downtown market is located at the intersection of University Place and Oak Avenue, behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Free parking is available in the adjacent 1800 Maple Avenue garage. 

  

Annual National Meeting of The Haiku Society of America 

The Haiku Society of America will host its Annual National Meeting with a symposium and cultural events in Evanston, Sept. 27-29. Open to the public, the event's theme of contemporary haiku and its future will enlighten beginning and experienced poets. Actor's Gymnasium New Courses

Actor's Gymnasium has added special courses this session! Course offerings for kids and adults of all ages and skill levels include Aerial Arts, Circus Arts, Contortion, Gymnastics, Drama, Musical Theatre, plus Parkour, Single Weapon Certification and more!
