Gift Card The Downtown Evanston gift card which is accepted at 140 downtown businesses is now available for purchase online! This new online system simplifies the process of purchasing the popular card and makes it even easier for out-of-town friends and family to purchase the Downtown Evanston gift card for Students, Friends, Family, Clients, etc. who live and work in and around Evanston. The card can still be purchased in person at the Downtown Evanston office at 820 Davis St., Suite 151 and at First Bank & Trust at 820 Church St.

 

 

 

Youth Job Center's Fall Job Fair at the Evanston Public Library - October 18

Need a job? Head to the Youth Job Center's Fall Job Fair, open to all job seekers 16 and older. Meet and network with more than 15 employers from Evanston, Niles, Skokie, Chicago and more! Resumes and appropriate interview attire strongly encouraged. Fall Job Fair will take place at the Evanston Public Library at 1703 Orrington Ave. from 1-4pm on Thursday, October 18th! 

 

 

 

New Kids Yoga Series at Grateful Yoga - Starting October 23
Grateful Yoga has launched a new kids yoga program this fall, and the next class series is about to begin. Kids yoga specialist Yoli Maya Yeh offers 4 different classes to address the unique development needs of different age groups. Sign up for the whole six week series, or drop in to any class. Music Institute Celebrate Jazz Master Billy Strayhorn - October 26 - 28

Honoring the work and legacy of one of the great jazz composers and collaborators, the  Music Institute of Chicago presents a Billy Strayhorn Festival October 26-28. The festival includes two star-studded concerts featuring trumpet great Terell Stafford and a screening of the award-winning film Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life followed by a panel discussion. The festival takes place at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.

  

 

 

Evanston 150 Project Update - Thursday, Novemeber 8, 7-9pm 

Evanston 150 On November 8 we celebrate the one year anniversary of our community's 10 Big Ideas with a progress report from the project teams. Mark your calendar and plan to join the working groups at the Evanston Civic Center at 2100 Ridge in the Parasol Room on the 4th floor!  

 

All community members who live, work, play or study in Evanston are invited to the Evanston150 One-Year project report. Hear about recent developments from the 10 Big Idea teams and find out how you can get involved.

 

The Celebrate!2013 working group will also explain the 11th idea: Celebrate!2013, and share how individuals and organizations can get involved in Evanston's 150th anniversary celebration.

 

  

 

Downtown Farmers Market - Every Saturday Through November  

Official hours of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market are 7:30am to 1pm behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Shoppers can enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, milk, eggs, flavored oils, pasta, and bakery items, as well as flowers and plants. Free parking is available in the adjacent city parking garage at 1800 Maple Ave.

 Crab Bash at Davis Street Fishmarket - The entire month of October 

 

October 1 through October 31, the 27 year-old seafood institution, Davis Street Fishmarket will feature a variety crab specials for lunch and dinner as well as special events throughout the month. Celebrate!Evanston - October 13, 6pm
Celebrate the Evanston Community Foundation's 25th anniversary of making grants, building endowments and helping Evanston thrive. Join them for a great party featuring cocktails and jazz, dining, drama, and dancing. Featuring Mudlark Theater. This event is held at the Woman's Club of Evanston. Event info here.



Circus in Progress presented by Actor's Gymnasium - October 13 & 14
Get a sneak peek at some of Chicago's most exciting new works of circus art! This unique performance series focuses on the development of new acts. Professionals from the Chicagoland circus community will be featured, as well as advanced students from The Actors Gymnasium's own classes. Click here for show dates and times!

Bistro Bordeaux Farmer's Market Menu - October 15, 6pm

Every Monday night Bistro Bordeaux features a Farmer's Market Menu showcasing Regional Seasonal Farmers' Produce! This week Executive Chef Johnny Besh teams up with local farmers to create a 3-course small plate menu. In addition, Pascal will be pairing each course with a selection of French wines. The menu features Mick Klug Farm, Nichols Farm, Lyons Orchard Farm, Henry's Farm and Green Acres Farm. Menu and dinner details here.




Fundraiser Concert for the Chicago-Main Library at Nichols Concert Hall - October 16

Brass trio V3NTO will put on their Fall concert in support of the Chicago-Main Library! Representatives of the Chicago-Main Library will be accepting donations in the lobby of Nichols Concert Hall before the concert and during the reception following the performance. The concert is on October 16th at 8pm in Nichols Concert Hall. Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Celebration at Avail & Co. - October 17

Join Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl along with the Downtown Evanston Board of Directors, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and staff in celebrating the opening of Avail & Company.  A ribbon cutting and celebration will take place at 5:30pm at 1106 Davis Street. The general public is invited to stop by for light refreshments and welcome the business owners to the neighborhood. Avail & Company designs and creates custom wedding apparel and accessories, from wedding dresses, attendant attire, to favors and décor. The Verona Project Opening at the Theatre and Interpretation Center - October 19

Amanda Dehnert's new musical, "The Verona Project," is an electric hybrid of theater and live concert infused with original indie-folk-rock music. A modern fable inspired by Shakespeare's first comedy, "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," the show takes an honest look at surviving love and loss through the eyes of a group of young musicians. The show runs October 19 through November 4 at the Josephine Louis Theater, 20 Arts Circle Drive on the Northwestern University campus. Eve J. Alfille's 25th Anniversary Celebration - October 20
Please join Eve Saturday, October 20th, 2012 from noon to 6pm, as she and the rest of the gallery celebrate their 25th Anniversary! Brickology at Gather - October 21
Join LEGO Certified Professional Beth Weis for a collaborative building event at Gather in Evanston. Children K-5 will enjoy free-play with Beth's vintage collection of elements, tower building with 10,000 bricks, and mosaic art projects. Parents are encouraged to participate! FREE!



Evanston Symphony Orchestra presents Viennese Masterworks - October 21, 2:30pm
Music Director Lawrence Eckerling conducts the opening concert of the Evanston Symphony Orchestra's 67th season. The program includes Brahms' 2nd Symphony, Mozart's Magic Flute Overture and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with soloist Matthew Hagle.


Candid Wine Dinner at Quince - October 25
