A Note From our Music Director,
Vicki Boeckman
Greetings Everyone!
What a splendid time of year this is in the Pacific Northwest. As the season changes our attention gently shifts from outdoor to indoor activities, which means more time for music-making and gathering around a fire (or furnace) sharing hot beverages with friends! 2012 is my eighth year back in the United States and this autumn is by far the most beautiful so far. I'm thrilled to be part of this amazing and diverse recorder community.
Our session on Friday will reflect the colors and diversity of the season.
I'd like to start with some beautiful Brahms part-songs tastefully arranged by Peter Seibert for 5 and 6 recorders. Then we'll put on our cowboy hats and boots and play the Western Suite by Frenchman Charles Fouque. I can find no information on the composer whatsoever, but his 4 part Suite written in 1996 is witty and fun, with some cute idiomatic "American sounding" passages. I'd like to think that Monsieur Fouque was on a trip to the US and fell in love with the West. The movements are entitled: Grand Canyon, Cowboy Solitaire, Rodeo, and Square Dance!
Then we'll play a piece I have looking forward to sharing with you...a 7 part work hot off the press by our own Glen Shannon, called Suspicion. Glen describes this as piece as energizing, accessible and FUN for both the players and the audience! So come one, come all, and bring all sizes of recorders from Sopranino on down to Contra bass. Viols are always welcome as well. I look forward to another energizing and FUN evening with you all.
Please email me directly if you would like a part sent as a pdf file to practice prior to Friday (specify instrument please). vickiboeckman@comcast.net.
Thanks!
Vicki

YES! I've finally done it! I've found a video link truly worthy of your valuable time and attention! DO NOT be dissuaded by "Danny's Guitar Shop"...the guy does a little routine as radio host of "WREN 1480" and then interviews the players and instruments of Piffaro, the famous renaissance wind band. It is fabulous, I hope you enjoy!

Vote on Snacks!
|
The results of our poll at the September session revealed that folks are not so excited about having snacks available after we play. That's ok! We''ll take a break from the nagging and revisit the question again next year. And if anyone is so inspired to bring something to share...we won't turn you away!
