Gulfcoast South AHEC connects students to careers, professionals to communities and communities to better health. We inspire, train, recruit and retain a diverse and broad range of health professionals to practice in communities where the need is greatest.
GSAHEC helps to educate health professions students and health care providers on the latest guidelines regarding tobacco and the easiest way to refer tobacco users to our cessation services. As always, please let us know how we can assist in your efforts to improve the health of underserved communities.

Community Health Workers: Making it Happen!

By: Ansley Mora, Training & Education Coordinator

Gulfcoast South AHEC had the privilege and honor to provide Community Health Worker training to the outstanding Reach & Connect CHWs employed by the Florida Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP). This is a fairly new concept under the well established FBCCEDP and the goal of the training was to provide core competency education in each of the five domains established by the Florida CHW Coalition. In addition, information on the newly created Florida CHW Certification was provided to the 14 CHWs in attendance.

We thoroughly enjoyed playing a part in this program and we wish all of the CHWs the very best in their goal to Reach & Connect underserved women to better breast health.
