Research News

Many members of the ovarian cancer community have been concerned about results of the GOG 252 clinical trial, which were released last month at the Society of Gynecologic Oncology's Annual Meeting on Women's Cancer. OCRFA consulted with a team of our scientific experts, and the consensus of the group is that results of this trial do not mean that patients and doctors should abandon IP chemotherapy at this time

Updated results of a recent study show that there is a benefit to be derived from the use of the drug cediranib (AZD171) when given concurrently with chemotherapy and continued as maintenance for patients with platinum sensitive ovarian cancer, when compared to standard chemotherapy only, albeit with some significant toxicities.

The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) formed back in 1998, when a group of thirteen ovarian cancer survivors from Atlanta met one another while undergoing chemotherapy. Through their conversations, many of them came to realize that prior to their own diagnosis they had never heard of the disease, or had even met an ovarian cancer survivor. They recognized that there was an immediate need to educate Georgia's women, their families and their healthcare providers about the risks, symptoms and treatments of ovarian cancer, all while spreading awareness of the disease.
