OCRF's Scientific Advisory Committee Welcomes New Members
OCRF recently welcomed three new members to its Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), our world-class group of leaders in the ovarian cancer field who review and approve all OCRF research grants. Ursula Matulonis, M.D., of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, Kenneth Nephew, Ph.D., of Indiana University School of Medicine & Simon Cancer Center, and Kunle Odunsi, M.D., Ph.D., of Roswell Park Cancer Institute, (pictured left to right) all joined the SAC in early May.
Breastfeeding, Birth Control Pills May Reduce Ovarian Cancer Risk Among Women With BRCA Gene Mutations
Breastfeeding, tubal ligation and oral contraceptives may lower the risk of ovarian cancer for some women with BRCA gene mutations, according to comprehensive analysis from a team at the University of Pennsylvania's Basser Research Center for BRCA. The Basser Research Center for BRCA was established with a gift from OCRF Board member Mindy Gray, and her husband Jon. Read more.

OCRF Research Shows How Ovarian Tumors Elude Immune System
Results from OCRF-funded research, reported May 4th in the journal Nature Medicine, show that ovarian cancer cells (and others) establish a protective barrier that prevents anti-tumor immune responses by using tumor-associated blood vessels to kill immune cells. Former OCRF Ann Schreiber Mentored Investigator grantee Dr. Gregory Motz was first author on the paper; OCRF grantee and former Scientific Advisory Committee member Dr. George Coukos was senior author of the paper. OCRF's Super Saturday LA Raises Over $600,000

Shoppers, celebs, designers, and supporters of the cause were out in full force this past Saturday at Santa Monica's Barker Hangar, for OCRF's first annual Super Saturday LA. From selfies with Cameron Silver and cooking demos from Tiffani Thiessen at Presenting Sponsor JCPenney's "At Home With JCPenney" booth, to blowouts at Rachel Zoe's DreamDry Salon, to STITCHED Fashion Camp for kids with Elle's Joe Zee and Parsons' Rob Younkers, photos with a private plane and giveaways from The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas, and huge designer deals from nearly 100 top designers, this spectacular event had something for everyone. Hosts Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman, and Molly Sims and Scott Stuber got in on the action, shopping, mingling, and voicing their support for the cause while enjoying a beautiful day with friends and family. By day's end, more than $600,000 was raised for OCRF's research program.
