Breakthroughs in Small Cell Ovarian Cancer

On Thursday, April 24th, at 6:00 p.m. EDT, OCRF will host the webinar "Breakthroughs in Small Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary, Hypercalcemic Type." Presented by Douglas A. Levine, of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the webinar will focus on findings published last month indicating that researchers have discovered a gene mutation that causes small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type. Dr. Levine, who is senior author of a paper on this topic, will discuss the importance of these findings and how they might lead to better outcomes for women in the future.

Register here to join and ask real-time questions. The archived webinar will be available following the original presentation. Support for this webinar series has been provided by Genentech.
Irregular Menses Linked to High Risk of Ovarian Cancer
According to findings presented at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting, prolonged (>35 days), infrequent, or anovulatory menstrual cycles was associated with as much as a two-fold increase in ovarian cancer and more than a three-fold increase in the risk of fatal ovarian cancer. OCRF Team Hope All-Stars
OCRF Team Hope
On April 12th, OCRF Team Hope members joined athletes throughout the region to participate in EventPower's Power of a Woman Triathlon and 5K, Long Island's only women's triathlon event, held in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York. With morning inspiration provided by OCRF's very own Triathlete for a Cure, Jenn Sommermann, participants swam, rode and ran their way to raising over $4,000 for OCRF, the event's official charity partner. Race participants also had the opportunity to make a donation at the time of registration, bringing the total amount raised for OCRF to over $5,200. Upon completion of the event, attendees gathered at the showmobile stage for a presentation of awards, recognition of OCRF Team Hope's efforts, and a celebration for all!
Iona Athletics Softball Team
The Iona Athletics College Softball team of New Rochelle, New York, hosted their first Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day at a doubleheader on April 12th. Inspired by the direct impact of ovarian cancer on their coach, the team was determined to further the mission of OCRF by collecting donations and distributing educational information. On the day of the games, the team and administrators wore special t-shirts and teal socks, with some dedicated supporters tying teal bows in their hair. Before introducing the starting lineup, the announcer read a short message about Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, spreading further awareness and asking for support. By day's end, $200 was raised for OCRF!
You can join OCRF Team Hope by creating your very own page or event. Click here to get started, or email Melissa Chemick for more information. You could be our next OCRF Team Hope All-Star!
