Greetings!
PIE and PRAISE are the focus of this Thanksgiving edition of the monthly Communique'.
First... PIE!
I'm not referring to the apple, sweet potato or mincemeat pie that we'll all be enjoying on Thanksgiving Day.
This proverbial pie represents how much energy we have to expend on a typical day. I borrowed this--with permission--from a stress management colleague, Roger Mellott. He contends that we get one "energy pie" each day and that we must carefully decide how, and to whom, we dole out each slice.
During this Thanksgiving week with family and friends choose carefully whether or not to let others gobble up your energy. Ask yourself in each situation: Is this pie-worthy? In other words, pick your battles!
Secondly...PRAISE!
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to let others know you appreciate them! In fact, any time of year at work or at home is a great time to praise others. Read below to find out how to make your praise more powerful!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
All the best,

What DO You Say?
How to Praise Powerfully
"You rock!"..."Great attitude!"..."Awesome!"
These are powerful phrases of praise....AND pairing these with more specific positive feedback is even more powerful! Being specific lets the other person know which behaviors you actually appreciate, and they're more likely to repeat them!
FOR EXAMPLE:
"The way you stayed calm while handling that upset customer was awesome!"
"Great attitude! I appreciate your ability to get the project done and stay positive in spite of the budget cuts!"
"Thanks for your help preparing the Thanksgiving dinner! You rock!"
