September Greetings!

Are you RUDE or RESPECTFUL?...in your cell phone communication, that is!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who responded to my question in last month's Communique' about what cell phone behavior bugs you the most.

Take a look at the responses re: rude cell phone communication in this edition...and see if you're guilty of any of them!

Also, in this Communique':
  • A link to NEW Kindle version of book "If You Can't Say Something Nice, What DO You Say?"

  • Phrases for respectfully "pulling rank when you have no rank to pull!"

  • A special incentive for booking your late 2013 or 2014 staff development/in-service by

Is Your Cell Phone Behavior
Rude or Respectful?

In a poll of Communique' readers last month, I asked the question:  "What cell phone bad behavior annoys you the most?"

I've cut and paste the actual responses below. Read on and see if-yikes!-you recognize yourself in any of these rude cell phone scenarios...or are you more respectful?

  • "Shouting into the phone. Really?"

  • "Talking on their cell phone in a small room and telling others to hush so they can talk, or I just hear their whole conversation."

  • "I hate hate hate it when people put their phone on speaker to hold a conversation in a public setting."

CLIENTS

Would you be willing to wait until Monday morning if we hand deliver your order?

We're finishing up another job right now. How about we get started on your request right after lunch?

BOSSES

I'm currently working on two other assignments for you. I need your help in determining which assignment is your highest priority.

Would it be possible to get this report to you first thing next week instead of Friday afternoon so I could gather more information for you?

COLLEAGUES

I would appreciate your letting me know if there's been a change in plans.

Would you be open to hearing an idea I have on how we can collaborate?

FAMILY

I need your help in getting everything done before the family vacation.

Could you live with it if we opted out of this weekend's plans?

This month I had the pleasure of speaking at the National Management Association conference which also featured Put-Your-Strengths-to-Work Guru
Marcus Buckingham.
(Pictured above)

He posed three important make-or-break questions that determine your satisfaction at work:

  1. Are my colleagues committed to quality work?
  2. Do I know what's expected of me?
  3. Do I have a chance to do what I do best every day?
