MEMBER VOLUNTEER SURVEY

PLEASE TELL US

At the Y, we value you as a member and count on you to help us serve you and our community. On October 29th you received an email inviting you to participate in our survey. If you have not already done so, please follow this link now. We value your comments and your time, so when you participate, you'll be entered into a drawing for a free month of membership dues. We hope you'll tell us how we're doing - "good" or "not so good," we need to know!

OP FOR TEENS - APPLY NOW

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation's Student Leaders® Program is accepting applications for the 2014 Student Leaders® program.

The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:

  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank.
  • The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 13-18, 2014.

Students can apply for the program by going to www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders. Please note the application opens on October 28, 2013 with a deadline of January 31, 2014.

GIVING AND VOLUNTEERISM

Members, bring a guest and help us to help others.  Each year the Newport News Family YMCA collects non-perishable foods such as assorted canned vegetables, rice, instant potatoes, stuffing, macaroni & cheese, soups, and canned meats.  Please plan to bring a guest from November 4th - 8th.  The guest and member must bring a canned good.  Members may pick up a guest pass at the Welcome Desk.

As part of the Y's mission and community outreach, we collaborate with other organizations to distribute the food to those in need throughout the community.

After the food drive,  Family Volunteer Day will be organized. This is when families, members and volunteers come together to decorate and pack boxes of food for area families in need. We will use the collected food on Family Volunteer Day.  This year Family Volunteer Day is Friday, November 22 from 6-8pm.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided for volunteers.

For more information, please contact Theresa Beal at 757.245.0047, ext. 213 or e-mail her.
