| HEALTHY NUTRITION DURING THE HOLIDAYS | |
The Holidays are here! And with all the great things (like family, fun and FOOD!), staying healthy can be a big challenge. Here are some helpful tips about how to enjoy this holiday season to the fullest, while still looking out for your health.
- Moderation and portion control are key. Don't trick yourself into thinking you can avoid those favorite family dishes. Instead, tell yourself "It's OK," just be sure to control your portions.
- Think before you bite. Are you really still hungry or just enjoying the taste? Eat slowly, think about how good it tastes. Pay attention to when you are full and STOP.
- Timing is everything. Instead of eating everything in one big meal, spread it out throughout the day. Eating smaller meals or snacks every couple of hours will keep your metabolism up, helping you avoid the "post-meal sleepy hangover."
- Stick to your regular exercise program. It can be very easy to break a workout habit, and especially so during the holidays. The Key: DO SOMETHING ACTIVE EACH DAY to keep you in the right mindset. Even if you are out of town, go for a walk, do squats or push ups - anything to keep your mind and body on exercise. It will be a lot easier to come back to the Y when you get back to post-holiday time.
Happy, healthy holidays to everyone! Please note our holiday hours in the calendar.
