BACK TO SCHOOL - EAT HEALTHY

The Y hopes all kids will do well in school.  Being alert and ready for school starts with plenty of sleep and healthy, nutritious meals and snacks.

For many families, going back to school means going back to a lunch outside of the home. Begin your family lunch menu- planning now.  Allow for a variety of foods to be packed up each morning, or even better, the night before.

Many children may not eat lunch until 4-5 hours after breakfast, therefore we need to provide a variety of healthy foods and include a rainbow of color. Include at least one serving of fruit and veggies when you pack lunch.  Involve your kids in the veggie and fruit selection at the market; have them pick out two things that are red, two orange and two that are yellow.  They will enjoy making the choices and you win with the variety of fruits and veggies in the home.

See how creative your family can get with their lunch menus this month and enjoy the added energy that moves everyone through the afternoon.

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS

45 at-risk chldren started the new school year off with abright beginnings   Bright Beginning; thanks to Y members, volunteers, contributors, volunteer shoppers and all others who contributed efforts.

Each child received $125 to shop for new school clothes and received a book bag with school supplies.  In addition, several more book bags were given to children in the community whose parents could not afford to purchase school

supplies.

It was a great success and because of you, many children will start school with the clothing and supplies they need!

SILENT AUCTION

Plan now to participate in our Silent Auction scheduled for October 15th - October 27th.

YMCA programs and activities offer participants an enriching environment, and aim to instill positive character values offering opportunities to those who might otherwise be unable to participate in programs such as swim lessons, child care and healthy living programs. Funds raised help to subsidize fees for our Guardian program which provides financial assistance so that no individual is denied a chance to participate because of the inability to pay.
