Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise. Gal. 3:23-29

Summer Picnics
Wednesday, June 26
6-8 pm
We're firing up the grill for our first summer barbeque on the front lawn. We're making burgers and will provide the plates and utensils. We ask that you bring a dish to pass and your own beverages. Parish picnics will also be held on Wednesday, July 31 and August 21.

Conversations with the Rector
Over the next couple of months, parishioners will receive invitations to one of a number of small group gatherings with Fr. Drew. Scheduled in June, August and throughout the fall, these gatherings of about 20 people are designed to help Fr. Drew meet individuals on a more personal level and to learn what we celebrate and enjoy as a parish, as well as the opportunities that we see for our community. Invitations will be sent a few weeks before each gathering date. If you are unable to attend a scheduled gathering, we will reschedule you for a different gathering date. If you have any questions, please contact MaryAnn DeAngelo in the church office.

 The Spirituality Center Presents
Reading with the Heart: Study as a Spiritual Practice
Mondays, June 24-Aug. 12,6:30-8 pm
at Christ Church
There is still time to register for the Spirituality Center's new prayer and discussion group "Reading with the Heart: Study as a Spiritual Practice," The eight-week series meets at Christ Church on Mondays, June 24-Aug. 12, 6:30-8 pm. The group will study Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life by Richard Rohr, OFM, a short, but significant book known for its enlightened spiritual perspective for those in or entering the second half of life.
Why participate? * Experience the joy of sharing with a small group of fellow seekers. * Practice the important distinction between "reading with the heart" and reading with the intellect alone. * Discard some of the unnecessary "mystery" about spiritual practices and deepen your experience of their simplicity and beauty. * Become more present to how God is moving in your life.
 | | Richard Gibson, Ed.D. |
Christ Church member and Spirituality Center board member, Richard S. Gibson, Ed.D., facilitates the group. Richard is a spiritual director, executive coach, management consultant, and trainer.
Cost for 8-week class: $24 per person/$11 for the book if purchased through the Cloister Bookshop. For registration information, see the flyer here or call the church office.

 Let's Do Lunch
Crossroads provides a summer lunch program for school-age children, many of whom are served at their weekly Sunday Soup Kitchen. Christ Church has offered to serve lunch on a number of days through the summer, including June 25, July 2, 9, 23, 30 and August 27. On those days we are responsible for preparing and serving lunch for approximately 30 children and providing a short activity such as singing, crafts, or games. We need a group of six to eight each week from 11am until no later than 1:30 pm. If you are interested, contact Ted Hagan.

Please feel free to pass this opportunity on to others in the Grosse Pointe community. (Advertisers do not need to be members of Christ Church.)

Outreach Opportunity
Uniform Collection for Crossroads
We are collecting school uniforms on behalf of Crossroads for hundreds of children (K through High School) who attend Detroit public and charter schools in the city. These are children who are cared for in foster homes and those who live in poverty. The following new or gently used items are needed: black, navy blue or khaki pants; white and navy collared shirts; sweaters in uniform colors; belts and underclothing. A collection bin is in the church office lobby through August 2. If you prefer, you may make a donation through PayPal via the Crossroads website at crossroadsofmichigan.org.
