Conversations with the Rector

Father Drew invites all parishioners to join him throughout the summer and fall for small group conversations to help him meet individuals on a more personal level, as well as learn what we celebrate and enjoy at Christ Church and the opportunities that we see for our community. Each session will also have a time for question and answer with Drew. Our first session is Tuesday, June 18 from 6:30-8 pm in Miller Hall. Please RSVP to Kelly Walsh.

The Spirituality Center Presents

Reading with the Heart:
Study as a Spiritual Practice

Mondays, June 24-Aug. 12,6:30-8 pm

at Christ Church

You're invited to participate in this new prayer and discussion group that will study Falling Upward:  A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life by Richard Rohr, OFM. This short, but significant book is known for its enlightened spiritual perspective for those in or entering the second half of life.

Why participate?
* Experience the joy of sharing with a small group of fellow seekers.
* Practice the important distinction between "reading with the heart" and
reading with the intellect alone.
* Discard some of the unnecessary "mystery" about spiritual practices and
deepen your experience of their simplicity and beauty.
* Become more present to how God is moving in your life.

Richard Gibson, Ed.D.

Christ Church member and Spirituality Center board member, Richard S. Gibson, Ed.D., facilitates the group. Richard is a spiritual director, executive coach, management consultant, and trainer.

Cost for 8-week class: $24 per person/$11 for the book if purchased through the Cloister Bookshop. For registration information, see the flyer here or call the church office.

uniforms Outreach Opportunity
Uniform Collection for Crossroads

We are collecting school uniforms on behalf of Crossroads for hundreds of children (K through High School) who attend Detroit public and charter schools in the city. These are children who are cared for in foster homes and those who live in poverty. The following new or gently used items are needed: black, navy blue or khaki pants; white and navy collared shirts; sweaters in uniform colors; belts and underclothing. A collection bin is in the church office lobby through August 2. If you prefer, you may make a donation through PayPal via the Crossroads website at crossroadsofmichigan.org.

Alzheimer's Support Group
Thursday, June 20, 6:30-8 pm

All who are coping with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease and dementia are welcome to attend this group at any time to find comfort and practical help. The group meets this (every third Thursday) in the Undercroft.
Summer Picnics
Wednesday
June 26, July 31 and August 21
6-8 pm

Mark your calendar for our first summer BBQ. The church will provide the burgers (and plates and utensils). We ask that you bring a dish to pass and your own beverages.
Planning Events, Reserving Space

In an effort to ensure that events are planned well in advance, and to eliminate scheduling conflicts, requests for room reservations must be received at least 21 days in advance of the event. Submitted forms are reviewed at the weekly staff meeting. You will be notified within 24 hours after a decision has been made. You can complete a "green" sheet here.
name badgeWear It and Win!

Our "Wear It And Win" winners for last week are Walt White and Elaine Yates. Each will receive his or her choice of a car wash coupon supporting our middle school group or a Cloister Bookshop gift certificate. Both will also receive a bonus Einstein Brothers Bagels gift certificate in honor of our graduating seniors. Winners were selected at random by Suzanne Peterson, long-time CCGP member and retired high school librarian. Anyone disagreeing with the selection process will be sent to the office immediately where they will receive a detention! Congratulations, Walt and Elaine. The rest of you have only three more chances to win. Keep wearing your name tags!
Stewardship Shout Out

The Stewardship Committee celebrates the many ways we show our love of God and others through the ministries of Christ Church.

This week we acknowledge the work of the Personnel Committee. This team serves to advise the rector, senior warden and vestry on personnel matters. They consult on a full range of personnel responsibilities such as hiring, compensation and performance. Members of the team come from a variety of backgrounds and provide their special skills and expertise to support personnel matters for our most treasured resources - our clergy and staff. For more information, contact Joe Katulic.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10

Advertising Opportunity: Parish Directory

A new Parish Directory should be ready for publication in September. These directories are free to parishioners thanks to the businesses who advertise in the directory. Anyone interested in placing an advertisement in support of our new directory should contact Lisa Pleschakow to create a new one. Please feel free to pass this opportunity  on to others in the Grosse Pointe community. (Advertisers do not need to be members of Christ Church.)
Child and Family Ministries

Guild of the Christ Child Needs Volunteers
We're looking for volunteers for Guild of the Christ Child. The Guild is a ministry to families who are planning a Baptism. It also makes a personalized Baptismal banner for each candidate. Basic sewing skills are helpful, but not necessary. Please contact Liz Johnson if you would like to join this team.

Nursery caregivers needed
During the 10 am service and fellowship time following the service, the church provides nursery care for children up to 3 years old. Nursery care is also provided during some special events. We are currently seeking individuals to work in the nursery on a contingent basis, to cover times that the nursery caregivers are not available. This is a paid position. For more information, contact Maryann DeAngelo

Pastoral Care

Divorce Support Group
Wherever you are in the process of healing from divorce, we're here to help you find your way in a safe, caring environment. This small group meets again on Wednesday, June 26 (every fourth Wednesday of the month). For more information, contact Pat Wenzel DeAngelo.

Career Transitions
The Eastside Take Control group supports individuals in career transition. It is a network of Grosse Pointe churches, counselors and coaches providing one-on-one services. Contact Richard Gibson for more information.

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal. 2:20-21
