24-hour Relay for Life (10 am-10 am)
Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. That's what we're doing this weekend at the annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event at Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park. Christ Church Team Eagles' Wings will keep vigil walking through the night to raise money for cancer research. Lend them your support by walking as little as half an hour, help out at the food tent or with set up and take down. Whatever you can do will be much appreciated. Wear It and Win!
You've heard it before, "Please wear your name badge..." Now, the New Member Welcome Committee wants to kick things up a notch. Starting this weekend and running through the last weekend in June, committee members will be on the lookout for people wearing their name badges (paper badges count).
25 people each weekend will receive a "Thank You" from the committee that they can exchange for a chance to win either a free car wash supporting our youth group or a gift certificate for the Cloister Bookshop, purchased by the committee. Two winners will be chosen each weekend. All ages are eligible. Get ready to wear it and win!

 There's a Lot Happening Next Sunday!
Service Time Change Our summer service schedule begins next Sunday, May 19. Holy Eucharist services on Sundays will be held at 8 am and 10 am through Sept. 1.
Fr. Drew celebrates his first services at Christ Church Fr. Drew celebrates the Holy Eucharist services next Sunday as our new rector. At the 10 am service, there will be Baptisms, and students participating in the Holy Communion course will receive communion.
Pentecost Celebration: Strawberry Shortcake Reception In celebration of this special day in the life of the Church, we will gather on the front lawn (weather permitting) after the 10 am service for fellowship and to taste some of the best homemade strawberry shortcake around. Remember to wear red!

There are a number of volunteer positions that need to be filled, including furniture move-out, ticket takers, hosts, and Angel Cafe staff, as well as food donations, cooks and servers for our dealer hospitality program. Child and Family Ministries
Holy Communion Education
The Holy Communion class is meeting in room B-217 each Sunday through May 12, 10 am-11 am. Students participating in the Holy Communion course will receive communion on Sunday, May 19 during the 10 am service. For those attending the 9 am service, please have your Communion class kids leave the service at 9:50 am. Have them to go the pews to the right of the pulpit, where they leave to go to Children's Chapel. Look for the teacher with the orange balloon sign. Contact Tracey Torosian if you have any questions.
Baptism Rehearsal
For families participating in Baptism on Sunday, May 19, rehearsal will be held Saturday, May 18, 9-10:30 am. Parents and Godparents will meet with Fr. Drew Van Culin in Miller Hall.
Holy Communion Rehearsal and Bread Making
Holy Communion students will bake bread, review the Holy Communion course, and rehearse for the Pentecost service on Saturday, May 18, 1-3 pm, Lower Level. . The bread will be served to the congregation for Communion on Sunday, May 19.
Mothe rs of Preschoolers meets Monday, May 20, 9:15-11:15 am in the Undercroft for support and fellowship to moms with children ages birth through kindergarten. Childcare is provided. Contact Tamara Wilson for more information. Soccer Camp is Coming!
June 16-20 Children entering grades K-5 will learn basic soccer skills, strategy, and good sportsmanship in a fun and encouraging environment. Registration forms are available online and in the Communications Center. The registration deadline is June 9. Contact Marica Ostrowski for more information.

CROP Walk Donations Are Still Welcome Give generously to CROP WALK in support of those who walked this annual event on April 28 to raise funds for hunger relief locally and globally. All gifts will be greatly appreciated.Task Force Against Gun Violence in America On Sunday, May 5, Lisa M. MacLean, M.D. gave a compelling presentation on the topic, "Why Do Kids Kill?" Task Force members placed ten* red candles on the tables to represent the number of juveniles using firearms to commit homicide each week in the United States. Because there is often more than one victim in these homicidal acts, the total number of victims per week is greater than ten. The Task Force meets Saturdays at 9 am in B-213. All are welcome.*Ten is an average based on the following data: * Juvenile offenders were involved in at least 766 murders in the U. S. in 2010, 8% of all murder offenders. * 70% (approx. 536 juveniles) used firearms in these acts of homicide. Alzheimer's Support GroupAlzheimer's Support Group - All who are coping with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease and dementia are welcome to attend this group at any time to find comfort and practical help. Foyer Group Kick Off

Foyer Groups are made up of about eight parishioners who meet once a month to share a simple meal and relaxed conversation in the homes of fellow parishioners. Adopt-a-Garden
We're looking for parishioners who will maintain a church garden bed for the growing season (April-November). Responsibilities include weeding, deadheading flowers, picking up litter or trimming dead or broken branches at least once a month during the season. Sign-up sheets and the garden map are in the lobby. Specific instructions and training if desired provided after sign up. If you have questions, please contact George Sutton or Candy Sweeny.
