MacLean
Lisa MacLean
Despite massive media coverage, we know little about what drives young peo  ple to commit horrific acts of school violence. Peer harassment and social ostracism have been cast as triggers, but is there really evidence to support this? How can we identify early signs of possible violence and offer preventative measures? Lisa M. MacLean, M.D., assistant dean, Student Affairs and Career Development, Wayne State School of Medicine, and a member of Christ Church, offers possible answers to these questions during the Adult Forum. Please join in the discussion.

The Choir of Men and Boys sing Evensong. A reception follows.
Make a Meal / Stock the Cupboards
Welcoming the Van Culins!

To help Drew and Jessica feel settled, we are hoping to bring over a few meals for them starting Monday, May 6. They have no allergies and are not part fridge icular; meals should be delivered around 6 pm.

We are also hoping to stock their fridge and cupboards with the following items:  1% milk; Cereal - Kashi Crunch, Shredded Wheat, Raisin Bran; Kashi-brand granola /cereal bars; Stoneyfield (or similar) vanilla yogurt; Fresh Fruits/Veggies - organic when possible; Low sugar items (no artificial sweeteners); Medium/dark roast coffee; Half and half; Root Beer soda; The Basics: Flour, sugar, butter, etc.

Emily Tennyson is coordinating this effort. It is important that you contact her at emtennys@aol.com or 313.884.3266 if you can prepare a meal and/or provide one of the items above.
Thank You, CROP Walkers!

We had a less than stellar turnout for last weekend's CROP Walk to fight hunger locally and globally through Church World Services. However, we are grateful to Ann Yeamans for her efforts in coordinating CCGP's team, and to Eric Ash, George, Sutton and Helen Santiz who joined her on the walk. Thanks also to Al and Margaret Torp and Kathie von Schwartz for being at registration to cheer on our walkers. If you weren't able to participate, it's NOT too late to be a "spirit walker" for TEAM CCGP!! Just write a check made payable to CWS CROP Walk and directed to Ann Yeamans c/o The Cloister Bookshop mailbox near the church office. All gifts will be greatly appreciated.
Feast of the Ascension

Many thanks to the 56 people who attended and to everyone who helped set-up, clean up, and brought the delicious food. It was a great gathering, enjoyed by all who attended!

Task Force
Against Gun Violence in America

Based on data provided by the U. S. Dept. of Defense and CENTCOM, 31,882 U.S. troops were seriously wounded in nearly nine years of war in Iraq. Contrast that with 73,505 Americans who were treated in hospital emergency rooms for non-fatal gunshot wounds in 2010, one calendar year of civilian life in the United States (based on data from U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Is this a serious public health issue in the United States? One can make a strong case that it is, based on the sheer numbers of fatalities and life-altering injuries sustained by Americans on an annual basis. For more information, click here. The Task Force meets Saturdays at 9 am in B-213.

Adopt-a-Gardengardening
We're looking for parishioners who will maintain a church garden bed for the growing season (April-November). Responsibilities include weeding, deadheading flowers, picking up litter or trimming dead or broken branches at least once a month during the season. Stewardship Shout Out

The Stewardship Committee celebrates the many ways we show our love of God and others through the ministries of Christ Church.

This week we acknowledge parishioners who participated in the Grosse Pointe area Crop Walk last weekend and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event May 11-12. Funds raised for Crop Walk are used to help fight hunger locally and globally through Church World Services. This year a good portion of the funds will target Crossroads East and Cass Community Services in Detroit, with the remainder helping hunger problems Guatamala. Members of Christ Church and Church of Messiah also participate in the Grosse Pointe area American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event to raise funds for cancer research. Volunteers raise funds by selling pulled pork sandwiches and other goodies, as well as luminaries and other Relay-related items. They also collecting pledges in support of  time spent walking during the 24-hour vigil held at Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park. In addition, funds raised through the Christ Church Relay for Life Wine Tasting event held every spring are also a part of the total monies raised for Relay for Life.
