May 5, Why Do Kids Kill?
Despite massive media coverage, we know little about what drives young people to commit horrific acts of school violence. Peer harassment and social ostracism have been cast as triggers, but is there really evidence to support this? How can we identify early signs of possible violence and offer preventative measures? Lisa M. MacLean, M.D., assistant dean, Student Affairs and Career Development, Wayne State School of Medicine, and a member of Christ Church, offers possible answers to these questions.

Task Force Against Gun Violence
in America

Much of the news surrounding death by guns in America focuses on homicides. Yet, firearms were used in 19,392 suicides in 2010, constituting almost 62% of all gun deaths. Over 50% of all suicides are committed with a firearm. The risk of suicide increases in homes where guns are kept loaded and/or unlocked. If you have a gun at home, be a responsible gun owner; use a gun lock and store the gun in a locked safe. The Task Force meets Saturdays at 9 am in B-213.

Adopt-a-Gardengardening
We're looking for parishioners who will maintain a church garden bed for the growing season (April-November). Responsibilities include weeding, deadheading flowers, picking up litter or trimming dead or broken branches at least once a month during the season. Sign-up sheets and the garden map are in the lobby. Specific instructions and training if desired provided after sign up. If you have questions, please contact George Sutton or Candy Sweeny.

Wednesday, May 1

News articles or event information for the summer issue of Crossings are due on Wednesday, May 1. Submit your news to JoAnn Amicangelo.
Stewardship Shout Out

The Stewardship Committee celebrates the many ways we show our love of God and others through the ministries of Christ Church.

This week we acknowledge the great work of the parents leading our Holy Communion Education Class. These parents quickly stepped in as a result of the leadership transition in children's ministries and Holy Communion education is underway. Many thanks to the organizers and teachers - Libby Irby, Kim Standish, Tracey Torosian and Elaine Yates. The children are learning about aspects of worship to help prepare them to celebrate Holy Communion with their fellow parishioners. The class will bake bread to share with the congregation and will join them in Holy Communion on Pentecost Sunday.

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  Acts 2:42
