Task Force Against Gun Violence in America
One gun, one bullet changes everything. An estimated 268 people are shot in America on any given day. John Owen was shot in the outer lobby of WDIV-TV in 2005. In his words, "Like Gabby Giffords, I'm one of the 70,000 people a year who are lucky enough to survive a gun injury. Lucky is a relative term. I have a spinal cord injury. I struggle with relentless pain. The life I had known before the shooting is just a memory now. One gun, one bullet changes everything." See the April 14, 2013 edition of The Detroit Free Press at freep.com for John Owen's full article. Also, consider joining the Task Force which meets every Saturday morning at 9 am in B-213.
Tell Us Your Experience
Walking the LabyrinthParishioners who walked the labyrinth and/or prayed at the Vigil for Children during Holy Week are encouraged to share your experience with the Task Force Against Guns in America. How meaningful was it? Was it more meaningful because of the focus on the victims of violence? How so? Send your comments to Peggy Maycock.

Adult Forums
May 5, Why Do Kids Kill? Despite massive media coverage, we know little about what drives young people to commit horrific acts of school violence. Peer harassment and social ostracism have been cast as triggers, but is there really evidence to support this? How can we identify early signs of possible violence and offer preventative measures? Lisa M. MacLean, M.D., assistant dean, Student Affairs and Career Development, Wayne State School of Medicine, and a member of Christ Church, offers possible answers to these questions.
