About Us
Why we are Here
We strive to be your HIPAA compliance training 'partner'. We are more than just a report, quick phone call or random email. We work with you to help you understand where you are, where you want to be and where you know you need to be.  If you are seeking a solid solution and not just a report, then we should talk... soon.

A Note to Our Readers
Please let us know if there is a topic that you would like to learn more about. Something happening at the office that doesn't seem quite right? You've heard that so-and-so does something different?

We enjoy bringing you posts and articles that you anticipate reading.  Or, maybe you'd like to contribute an article, quote or opinion. We are interested in what matters to you. Let us know!

We understand how very busy your days are. We talk to many of you regularly. There is so much to keep up with. What you thought you'd accomplish today could change with a simple phone call that could derail the entire week. Believe me... we know.

One of the last things you might have time for is additional reading. And, although I enjoy publishing this newsletter monthly, we thought we should give you the time to catch up.

Our Small Provider HIPAA blog will continue to publish timely posts, and we will continue to post the tech blogs twice per month. So, there are still great topics available.  However, we are going to try and release this newsletter every other month. Let me know if that doesn't work for you. Otherwise, we'll talk to you again in November.

Kindly,

Brian G. Wilson

Is it Second Nature? Can it Be?
Actions Without Reason
  • Turn off the Alarm

  • Turn on the TV

  • Grab the phone or tablet

  • Stretch
Which one of these things is not like the other? And not just because it's not electronic. One or more of these actions are automatic to most of us as soon as you wake. It may be irritating at first, but try not to do them. But, you've got to be of strong mind and powerful will not to stretch. Consciously, deliberately don't do it. It's not just second nature, it's nature. The body triggers that action, not our environment or our training.

The other things are all trained responses. They tend to happen automatically, but they have been a programmed response most likely for decades. They've become second nature. There are other things you do daily that are also programmed responses
How Much More Can I Do?
Do You Think You've Done Enough?

Forgetting the fact that HIPAA is law, not just suggested 'best practices', the Director of HHS Leon Rodriguez said during the 2013 National HIPAA Summit, 'one of the major reasons for all of these policies and procedures is to instill patient trust.' Never mind there may be an audit or a breach, which would require additional time, staff and money to survive. Can you be absolutely certain the current procedures you have in place fully protect patient privacy?

Take off the table that HIPAA is a task (although it is), or takes too much time (although it may), or costs too much (although it can). As a business person managing a successful practice, is it worth the effort? I recently listened to a webinar, and this very good point was highlighted: Risk = Threat x Vulnerability x Consequence. FBI Special Agent said (yes, the FBI)...

It's here again! The city of Decatur Electronics Recycling Day happens twice a year. The date this fall is Oct 11th.

We are headed that way. Contact us if you'd like us to pickup your electronics, and we will arrange a date prior to the 11th. As a service to our clients, there will be no charge.
