Greetings!
I apologize, but I got this newsletter out at the very last minute. And it's Monday evening. But I wanted to keep my goal of releasing something to you monthly. Now this is a little abbreviated, but, there is important security information this month.
We have noticed plenty of security topics lately. We have received questions from clients, seen articles in the media, posted content in our blog and seen similar posts in multiple industry outlets.
Please make sure your Anti-Virus software is current. We understand some of the options and questions can be a bit confusing. When did your program last scan? Did you answer that last question correctly? Are your updates current? If you are not certain, you should contact us... or someone.
The Kardon Tech Managed Anti-Virus and Software Patch Management are automatic programs. You no longer need to maintain or verify your scans. You don't need to answer the messages that show up randomly on your screen. We'll let you know when you need to restart your computer. That's it. So... you can just work.
Anti-Virus and Patch Management are just a couple of the security options Kardon Technology offers. We launched our HIPAA Compliance Offering in March,, which has been very well received. If you are, or know, a private medical practice, you should really complete the HIPAA survey available on our website. We are working on several other packages that I will be certain to let you know about. But, with all that we do in the medical arena, we figured it was the likely place to start.
We will continue to keep you informed. Check our social media pages (below) to keep up on our progress.
Sincerely,
Brian G. Wilson

Ask Chantz
The Eyes and Ears at the Office...
Question: I had (have) Apple products, but then got a Droid tablet (a Google operating system). I use GMail and Google Docs. If Google offers Droid, why does it look like the Apple has better functionality?
Clarifying Question: Can you be more specific? When you say 'better functionality', can you give me an example?
Response to 2nd Question: Well, like, it's real easy to just mark an opened e-mail unread on my iPhone. I can't...
I Don't Mean to Interrupt, but: Do you use the task button?
A Quizzical Look: The what?
Answer: I see. Open an e-mail. You see the 4 buttons at the bottom of the tablet? One is 'Home', one is 'Back'... The far left button? Tap on it.
Reply: Get out!!!
Answer: Yup. All of your options are right there. This same button works on nearly every page you have opened, whether it's a web page or an application.

Client Corner
Services That Work
I had spoken to our newest client months ago. My periodic calls and e-mails only yielded a, 'yeah, I know'. Until I got "the call".
"So, can someone get on to or into my computer?" My reply was, "yes, why, and what's going on" all in the same breath. He said, "Well, things seemed slower than usual. I looked in my browser history, and there are web pages that I have not visited at all! Gaming sites, retail pages... just a bunch of crap. But there is a lot of them. One site is ancestry.com When I looked at the page, a profile was recently created of a 40 something year old man in Italy with... my name!" What do I do... |

Spam and E-mail Scams
How Safe is Your E-mail?
Recent updates by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) have noted two recent e-mail scams. BBB says, "These scam emails are remarkably sophisticated."
The first e-mail is from what appears to be from American Express. The message informs recipients that the email address on their American Express account has been changed and provides a link to where you can log in and correct the address. If you have not edited your Amex account, you should not be responding to information for updates to your account without contacting American Express directly.
The other scam actually earned the 2011 BBB Scam of the Year. It references an e-mail that announces a BBB Complaint. BBB provides a list of recent scams at http://www.bbb.org/us/scams/

Social Media
Pinterest vs. Facebook
By Christina Lundeberg/Digital Journal: Not long after Mark Zuckerberg's brainchild lit up the Internet in 2004, Palo Alto produced yet another prodigy. Ben Silbermann, the CEO of Pinterest, took to a more image-heavy interface with his starry-eyed startup that launched six years later. After rocking the paradigm with his immaculately simple site, Silbermann's audience is currently numbered at 17.8 million to Facebook's almost 600 million. Given these numbers, Pinterest's disproportionately large amount of visits, clicks, and growth is starting to even the playing field. So who will win this titanic bout, and does there even have to be a lone victor? Ringside social media buffs should consider the following insights about the two social media stars to answer these questions for themselves.
Pinterest integrates a simple, elegant aesthetic with even smoother functioning to attract its largely female audience, which has already multiplied more than 50 times since 2010. Digital Journal Article...
