TIP OF THE WEEK - Stretching Garments Prior to Heat Pressing
|
Some screen printers, who print directly onto t-shirts or who print plastisol heat transfers, will stretch the garment before printing or heat pressing. THE HOT TOPIC - How to Pick the Right Heat Press for Your Shop
|
When selecting a heat press, first determine the type of work you plan to do. Aside from specialty presses, there are two main types of heat presses: clamshell presses and swing-away presses.
On a clamshell heat press, the top platen lifts straight up, and the top and bottom platens are connected by a hinge. These presses are generally cheaper, but they're also usually less versatile. If you plan to decorate on anything that's not flat, this press may not suit your needs.
With a swing-away heat press, the top platen lifts to the side of the press. A swing-away press requires more floor space than a clamshell model because the top platen needs room to swing freely. This type of press also allows for decoration on thicker, bulkier items. Loading and unloading is typically easier with less risk of burns.
