Talent Summit 2013
Keynote Speaker Announced!

Eric Chester is the premier expert on the emerging workforce.

He began his career as a high school business teacher and coach. After six years in the classroom, Eric launched out as a motivational speaker for students, and in the decade that followed, he became one of America's top speakers for youth visiting hundreds of schools throughout the US and Canada and inspiring millions of high school and college students to reach higher and work harder.

Leading companies and organizations soon discovered that Eric had "cracked the code" on the emerging generation and sought out Eric's advice on how they could better connect with the under 30 workforce.  With his engaging, often irreverent style, he quickly became a favorite keynote speaker for corporate meetings and events.

Since 1998, Eric has been the leading voice in recruiting, training, managing, motivating, and retaining young talent.

Chester is also the Founder of The Center for Work Ethic Development, a firm offering cutting-edge curriculum and online training resources for business leaders, high school and college students, workforce training centers, and all levels of employees.

With a diminishing work ethic being a primary concern for today's employers, Eric frequently appears on national media to provide insight and perspective to business leaders, educators, and concerned adults. He's the author of the business books Employing Generation Why (Tucker House Books) and Getting Them to Give a Damn (Kaplan).  His 2012 release, Reviving Work Ethic - A Leader's Guide to Ending Entitlement and Restoring Pride in the Workforce - is the first business book on work ethic since 1904.  His forthcoming book, On Fire at Work: How Legendary Leaders Ignite Passion in Their People without Burning Them Out, will be released in 2014.

Bay Area Economic Club

The Bay Area Economic Club welcomes Brian Sarvello, Career and Technical Education Director for the Marquette- Alger RESA. The event will take place at Bay College Joseph Heirman Center beginning at 12pm ET.

Our nation is experiencing high unemployment, a growing skills gap and facing the impending retirement of millions of Baby Boomers whose expertise is critical to our nation's economy.   Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives hold the best hope for filling the void and helping our economy to rebound.  New partnerships between secondary schools, postsecondary institutions and business & industry are changing the way we educate our young people and assuring they are prepared to meet the challenges of their future.  Brian Sarvello, will demonstrate how CTE works for our students and economy.

Brian Sarvello is the Career and Technical Education Director for the Marquette- Alger RESA, supervising all high school vocational programs in the two-county region.  He began his career as a teacher and coach at Baraga HS, where he revived the high school's football program, which hadn't won a single game in the previous six years and led them to the state finals in his fourth year there.  As a teacher he was named Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Educator of the Year, and received the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Excellence in Education Award.  As Principal of Ishpeming HS, he received a Safe and Drug Free Schools Award for efforts to reduce substance abuse in his school and community. He also led the school to impressive ACT & Michigan Merit Exam scores, consistent 'A' grades on their state report card, and the selection of the school as one of America's Top High Schools by U.S. News and World Report magazine.  He's passionate about providing more vocational and STEM opportunities for students and providing our region with the skilled labor needed to sustain and grow our economy.
