Operation Vet Connection 2013 Success

Michigan Works would like to congratulate the Marquette Veteran's Services Division on a successful Veterans Job and Resource Fair that was held on November 5th at the Ishpeming Armory.  The event was titled Operation Vet Connection 2013 and was organized specifically for veterans of our armed forces.  Local Veteran Career Counselor Steve Gillotte and Disabled Outreach Veteran Worker Mark Tweedale played a key role in the success of the event. Over 50 local companies and agencies were present to speak with local veterans about potential benefits and employment opportunities within the region. 82 Veterans registered and attended the event.

"This was a great opportunity for our local veterans to connect with employers from the area, as well as speak with government agencies that administer veteran benefits.  We strongly believe that these types of events provide our veterans with an opportunity to have face to face contact with those resources they so critically need." Stated Steve Gillotte.

Governor Rick Snyder recently proclaimed November as "Hire a Veteran Month" and by proclamation declared.  "During this month we join with Michigan's Workforce Development Agency, Veterans' Services Division to celebrate, Hire a Veteran Month; we encourage employers throughout Michigan to recognize the skills and many contributions of Michigan's Veterans."

Michigan Works and the regional Small Business Technology Development Center (SBTDC) participated in the event to provide veterans the opportunity to learn of the many resources that the central six county Michigan Works Service Centers have to offer to both job seekers and employers, as well as expose veterans to the assistance entrepreneurs can access via the Service Centers.

"We would also like to thank the many companies who provided food and refreshments for this event."  Stated Mark Tweedale  "The responses for food donations were tremendous! And we would like to thank the following companies for their support."

Pizza Hut, Dominos, Jets, Border Grill, Blimpy's, Bucks of Ishpeming, Econo Foods, Super One and Wal Mart.
