About OC Math Circle
The Orange County Math Circle was founded in 2007 by math enthusiast Johnny Li (Harvard University, Class of 2015) to bring his experience from San Diego Math Circle to share with more students in his hometown. Please read Orange County Math Circle, A Service Learning Project by Dr. Michelle Muratori of Johns Hopkins University to learn more about its history.

Dear friends,
We are now entering the fall season, and with that come the warm familiarity of the holidays. Now as I am in my fourth year with OCMC, I see tremendous progress in the organization. We have expanded to include many new programs, and for that I give thanks. Thanks to the parents who support us, the children who participate, and the volunteers who help us.
Starting small, we did not need the financial support of our members, but now, as we grow, we come to you, our participants, to pitch in with the math circle.
Please read the letter here and donate what you can. We appreciate your continued support of our organization.
Alex Zivkovic
President, OCMC
University High School, Class of 2013

Santa Ana Math Club Kicks-Off
Orange County Math Circle kicked off its first Santa Ana Math Club meeting for the 2012-2013 school year on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Lathrop Intermediate. SAMC volunteers meet with students from the Santa Ana school district for three hours every month in order to train them for the big event, Orange County Math Field Day, in May, as well as the Santa Ana Math Field Day. More importantly, SAMC inspires math enthusiasm and provides math education to students who have the passion but not necessarily the resources to pursue their interests. More...

Santa Ana Math Club
This month's SAMC meeting will be postponed to Saturday, December 8th, from 8:30 AM - 12 PM at Lathrop Intermediate (1111 South Broadway, Santa Ana). The Santa Ana Math Club is a great way to become further involved with OCMC. Not only do volunteers have the chance to work with children, but they can practice their leadership and teaching skills as well. This upcoming meeting will be the first meeting of the year where volunteers teach a full lesson on a specific math concept, so we are excited to have a strong start! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Anne Chen.

| OCMC Middle School Competition Classes
The OC Math Circle has been holding classes for the past two months to prepare students for the AMC 8 competition. Several volunteers taught enthusiastic students topics typically tested on the competition, including number theory, geometry, algebra, combinatorics, and probability. The AMC 8 will be hosted by the OC Math Circle this year, and will be held on November 13th, from 7:00 to 7:45 PM at the Irvine Chinese School. More information about the exam can be found here. We wish everybody luck on the upcoming test!
On a different note, MATHCOUNTS practice classes will be starting on Saturday, December 1 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. An email with additional information about the classes, including registration details, will be sent out later. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact either Dennis Shim at or Wendy Wei. |
