August News from WRCDV
This month we share a new project with you, recap Camp PEACE and give you the date of our next volunteer training.

Domestic Violence Later in Life

Women's Resource Center is excited to be part of a new collaboration to address elder abuse and domestic violence later in life. Our team is one of only nine such groups across the country who are working to create systemic change in outcomes for older adults experiencing domestic violence or other forms of abuse.

The proposed training and services offer an unprecedented opportunity for DeKalb County to address gaps and barriers in services and create a comprehensive approach to end abuse in later life. Until that occurs, the project will also help our community better address elder abuse cases with respect, efficiency, and care for the victim. Training for criminal justice professionals, cross training opportunities for professionals working with older victims, and the development of a coordinated community response to elder abuse will create an environment which will enhance services for victims who are 50 years of age or older. We are proud to be partnering with the DeKalb Police Department, DeKalb Sheriff's Office, Solicitor-General's Office and DeKalb Office of Senior Affairs on this vital new undertaking.

Camp Recap

We are so excited to have concluded another session of Camp PEACE, our violence-prevention summer camp for children exposed to domestic violence. This year we doubled the length of our camp to a full eight weeks, providing 40 campers with even more time to build emotional intelligence and compassion and mothers with a full summer of no-cost childcare. Campers left camp armed with the tools they need to manage their emotions, form healthy relationships and peacefully solve conflicts now and for the rest of their lives. Visit our Facebook page or the Camp PEACE website to see photos from this summer's camp.

Volunteer Training

A new volunteer training class begins next month. We use volunteers in all of our major programs, including assisting women in court, supporting families at the safe house, mentoring children, answering our hotline and more.
