Addressing childhood domestic violence exposure

The A Path Appears blog is featuring Camp PEACE, our summer camp program addressing childhood exposure to domestic violence. Denise, who had three children attend the camp last year, says, "I never thought meditation could have such a positive impact on kids." Read more about the effect Camp PEACE had on Denise's family and visit the camp website for ways you can support this year's campers.

Making change in women's finances

Making Change is our agency's financial strategies program for DV survivors. It was highlighted by the 2014 Georgia Domestic Violence Fatality Review Project as a promising community initiative to reduce DV homicide by helping women increase their financial stability. Read the full report to learn more about other key findings to reduce DV murders in Georgia. And learn more about Making Change by visiting the programs page on our website.

Honoring survivors for sharing wisdom

Mark your calendars for our Champions for Change Luncheon and Silent Auction on June 23rd. Each year, our Luncheon honors those who have made significant positive change in the lives of those impacted by domestic violence. Our 2015 honoree will be DV survivors themselves, whose triumphs and losses have built compassion, shaped our work, challenged us to better respond and demanded progress toward a violence free future. The event will be hosted by Natasha Trethewey, whose mother Gwendolyn Grimmette was murdered in DeKalb County in 1985 by her former husband, Natasha's stepfather. Ms. Grimmette's death became the catalyst for Women's Resource Center's founding the following year. Ms. Trethewey is a Pulitzer Prize-winner and served two terms as the US Poet Laureate. She is the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory, where she directs the Creative Writing Program. Purchase tickets today.
