April 2014 NEWSLETTER

"Committed to promoting growth, visibility, prosperity, making a positive impact on our community and fostering a network of mutual support amongst our members."

Spring is popping up all over.  Have you noticed the fabulous banners commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Borough of Malvern?  If not, get out in the beautiful weather and take a walk down King Street.

A note from our police chief:

Malvern Businesses;

This is to notify you on Monday March 31 and Tuesday April 1 Aqua is scheduled to be doing work on King Street at Woodland Avenue.  The work should start around 9am and will end at 3pm both days. Single lane closures are to be expected and at times complete road closures.   Expect delays during these times. I will notify you if this work extends into Wednesday.

MBPA General Membership Update:

Barb Peterson (MBPA Web Designer) gave her report to the MBPA Board on March 5th.  Her suggestions were:

  • Needs cell phone accessibility
  • Responsive theme to work with I-pads, laptops & smart phones
  • Separate business categories for better navigation
  • Business owner accessibility to add information and individual links

The goal is to complete the update by June.

MBPA Slate of Officers:

We are still looking for potential candidates to serve on the Board.  If interested contact Pat Reeser at missydaisy@comcast.net.  The Nomination Committee has started accepting names.

MBPA Sponsored Events for the Business/Professional Community:

The following events contribute to the local businesses, bringing not only residents, but people from local communities to our town.  This is one of the best advertising ventures for your money.

  • Malvern Blooms
  • Farmers' Market - now year round
  • Fall Festival
  • Victorian Christmas

These events get coverage in many local papers and attract families within ChesterCounty to come and visit Malvern.  As is usual for any association, it is run by a few dedicated individuals taking time to give back to their community.  In order to continue the success of MBPA's sponsored events, we need more individuals to step up and help out.  Please consider volunteering for one or more of our sponsored functions.  Contact Pat Reeser if you are interested and attend our General Meetings for ways you can give back.

In addition the Malvern Borough Parks & Recreation Committee holds several events each year, such as:  Movies in Burke Park, Halloween Parade, and many more family activities.

Winter Farmers Market:

Going forward into Spring, Malvern Winter Farmers Market dates for April are April 5th and 19th.  The winter location is in the First Baptist Church of Malvern from 10:00 AM to 12:00Noon.  Come for the market, stay for the shopping.

Growing Roots Partners, under the auspices of the Malvern Business & Professional Association, is seeking sponsorships for Malvern Blooms the first Sunday in May.
Go to www.GrowingRootsPartners.com/about-malvern-festivals for full details, sponsorship applications, and vendor applications.

Happy Anniversary "THE BANNERS ARE HUNG" celebrating Malvern Borough's 125th anniversary of incorporation.  The Malvern Historical Commission is working hard on plans for this year-long celebration and we want to be a part of it!   You will soon see beautiful hanging flower baskets adjacent to the banners.

Card Exchange Success:  Joanne is working on two more card exchange dates - to be announced.  The card exchanges have been very successful.  What a great way to publicize your business, exchange ideas with Paoli, Wayne, and Berwyn-Devon Business Associations, and a social event as well.  This is also a great chance to bring along a friend and introduce a potential MBPA member to our association.  New members are the lifeblood of any organization.

Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund:

At our March General Meeting we had the honor of hosting Eugene Hough, co-founder of Saving Hollowed Grounds who spoke passionately about the Paoli Battlefield and Paoli Massacre.

Join the Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund on April 14th to hear Dr. Michael Gabriel of
KutztownUniversity speak about the hard fought Battle of Quebec and on May 12th to discuss with Dr. Rob Lukens, President of the Chester County Historical Society how various memorials, markers, and memories remind us of our past and impact our present.

These events are held at the General Warren Inne at 6:00 PM.  Dine on specially prepared 18th century cuisine at the tavern which played such a pivotal role at the Battle of Paoli.  Admission price is $49.00 per person which includes buffet, beverages, dessert, taxes and gratuities, lecture by historian, and a donation to support the work at the Paoli Battlefield.  It also includes a chance to win a night's stay at the General Warren Inne.
