February Newsletter 2014

"Committed to promoting growth, visibility, prosperity, making a positive impact on our community and fostering a network of mutual support amongst our members."

Now that the holidays are behind us and we are "weathering" the Canadian Clippers, I wanted to bring you up-to-date on the continuing happenings in Malvern.

Malvern Community Arts Project:
Have you been to the library lately? Check out the latest finished mural in the children's section of the Malvern Library. You can now see the finished outdoor murals on the walls at Malvern Pizza and Gallagher's back wall. The Mural Club is working on getting a light for the Gallagher's wall so the commuters can see the "Welcome to Malvern" mural as they leave and arrive in the early morning and late evening darkness.

Next is the Bridge Street project. The Great Valley High School National Honor Art Society students and Mural Club are working on the design. Thanks to everyone in the community who shared their ideas for the theme "Malvern Today."

Winter Farmers Market:
We are back! Malvern Winter Farmers Market dates will be February 1st and 15th, March 1st and 15th, April 5th and 19th. Come for the market, stay for the shopping. Explore Malvern's storefronts and eateries before or after you shop at the farmers market. Buy LOCAL.

Highlighting some of the attendees:
Down to Earth Farm will be bringing spinach and mushrooms. Buy some and cook along with their blog this week. Best of all it is nutritionally packed with goodness and low in calories.
Kimberton CSA survived the Arctic Vortex. From their hoop house they will be bringing carrots, onions, kohlrabi, turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic, Swiss chard, collards, kale, and spinach. Celebrate LOCAL PRODUCE!

Eastside Flats: (according to Kara Stettler, Asst. Property Manager)
The in-place leases for Retail are Christopher's Restaurant, UpHome, Kimberton Whole Foods (a separate building), and Wallace and Nilon. We currently have 77 apartment homes pre-leased out of 190 (41%).

Renewal and Support of MBPA:
As a reminder and follow-up to Joanne Resendiz' letter, it is time to ask for you continued support and membership in the MBPA. Your involvement and support defines Malvern as a destination where you can shop and dine in a family-friendly atmosphere. As Joanne says, "The dues are $140 for the year. A small fee with many benefits!" For further details or a New Member & Renewal Form, contact Joanne at joresendiz30@gmail.com.

Any MBPA member in good standing, interested in serving on the Board, should please contact Pat Reeser. Starting in March the Nomination Committee will be accepting names.

RECEPTION/General Meeting:
Mark your calendar for February 12th at 6:00 PM at the Mauger-Givnish Home on Monument Avenue. At this special meeting we will be introducing our new Mayor, Dave Burton. Please join us in giving Dave our best "Malvern Welcome."
