"Committed to promoting growth, visibility, prosperity, making a positive impact on our community and fostering a network of mutual support amongst our members."

Congratulations and thanks to Neil Vaughn, Malvern Fire Chief and his devoted volunteers for a grand Malvern Fire Company's 125th Anniversary parade on October 5th.  I watched all the fire trucks from Malvern, Paoli, West Chester, East Whiteland and others (11 in all) line up at MalvernMemorial Park and proceed along Monument to Warren, then to King.  I walked along with the parade.  Bag pipers were first, then fire trucks, and in the middle was the 1903 antique pumper fire truck drawn by two beautiful black Per Chon horses (who were a little antsy at times).  I was looking for all the Malvernites (especially MBPA members).  Where were all the people?  It was a very poor turnout for such an important event.  The parade ended at the firehouse with free hot dogs, soft pretzels, and sodas.  Then the housing and dedication ceremony followed with State and Local dignitaries in attendance.  You missed a fun day.  You should have been there.  One Malvern organization supporting another Malvern organization.

Here is Kristin Thomas' update on the Train Station Mural:

Hello all -

I wanted to tell everyone about what's going on by the train station with Dennis' mural.  First, it's absolutely stunning.  He has amazing talent.  He is close to finishing.  If you haven't stopped by, go check it out.

A mural of this size and detail, by a professional mural artist, would typically cost about $20,000.  Dennis agreed to help us for only $5,500.  Since his wife passed away last year, his kids wanted to keep him busy and twisted his arm to do this project.  This is his first outdoor mural and only his 2nd or 3rd mural ever.

We underestimated the time and cost to complete the mural.  We did our best to make an educated guess, but with weather and conditions, we were wrong.  We rented the boom lift for one month and while Dennis did his best to work around the boom lift deadline, a month quickly came and went.  We had to return the lift after an extra week which cost $800.00 which Dennis took out of his mural money.

We are going to have to beg and borrow some ladders and hope that they work out.  If you know of anyone with scaffolding that could help, please let me know.

I'm planning on giving Dennis a gift card to his favorite restaurant to say thank you.  I was hoping some folks in the MBPA would do likewise:  flowers, gift card, etc.  Please consider it as he is doing a fantastic job.  This mural is a donation to our community and helps all of us.

Thanks for considering getting Dennis a little something in the way of thanks.

Also, the Library Mural is coming along nicely.  I'll be hanging a framed donor sign soon.

I'm also meeting with the Great Valley School District High School Art Club to discuss painting and mounting Images of Malvern Today on the Bridge Street bridge.  I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to one of our new MBPA members - Jason Feldman, owner of The Clean Store, the greener dry cleaner, an organic dry cleaning, shirt laundering, alterations and more.  This neighborhood store is located next to Fed-Ex in Frazer on Route 30.  Jason spoke at our October general meeting explaining the environmentally friendly concept of organic dry cleaning.

MBPA encourages other members to come speak about their business at our general meetings.  Just another way the MBPA is working for you.

Our Second MBPA Card Exchange was held on October 16th at the Great American Pub.  A lively crowd assembled for networking and refreshments.  This is a great way to showcase your business.  Each person had a chance to give the name of their business and a brief summary of what they do.  Thanks to all who attended.

December 2nd will be our next card meet and greet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the General Warren Inne.  Many thanks to Joanne Resendiz, our MBPA Membership Chair, for arranging these worthwhile events.  For more information contact Joanne at joresendiz30@gmail.com

October 11th was my Sixth Annual Best of Malvern Fashion Show and Luncheon to benefit PaoliHospitalBreastCancerCenter.  Despite the weather, we had many guests.  Jim Paradis, President of Paoli Hospital, being the only man, was outnumbered by and enthusiastic gathering of ladies.

Thank you to all the super Malvern boutiques that showed their latest fashions.  Also thanks to our devoted sponsors who contributed great items for the door prize table.

In addition to all our lovely female models (young and older), we had Dr. Bob Fried, Chief of Surgery and John Doyle, Chief Financial Officer of Paoli Hospital, showing the latest trends from Englunds Apparel for Men.  The ladies loved them!

General Warren served a delicious lunch.  Mark your calendar to join us next October (Breast Cancer Month) for the Seventh Annual.

November 13, 2013, 6:00 P.M.  Borough Hall - General Meeting.  Ken Pitts, Vice President of mortgage sales for Fulton Bank in West Chester is our guest speaker.  For the past 20 years Ken has worked in all aspects of the mortgage lending business.  His topic for our meeting is the Dodd Frank Act and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau - a quick primer on upcoming changes to mortgage lending and their impact on home buying.  Mortgage lending will never be the same.

Farmer's Market is still every Saturday at Burke Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  A winter location has been found.  More on this later.
