Community Gardens Continue to Grow in the CNN Area!
The organizers of the Frazer Park Community Garden in Rose City Park are holding the grand opening for the garden this Saturday from 10-noon at NE 52nd and Hassalo. The Grant Park community garden is opening in May. Soon to come is the Helensview school garden in the underserved Sumner neighborhood which is undergoing preliminary soil testing.  According to Commissioner Nick Fish a new garden in Thomas Cully Park is expected this summer as Parks and Recreation will continue to support community efforts. These new gardens in Central NE neighborhoods add to the ever changing ground on which new relationships are built where more neighbors have access to healthful food and activities. Visit GardenNet on our website for a listing of resources, map, and more related to locally initiated food growing and distribution.
City Repair's 2012 Village Building Convergence Event
The City Repair Project invites you to be a villager once again at the Village Building Convergence of 2012!  There will be natural building, public art, permaculture projects at all scales, urban design, community democracy, and tons of hands-on, educational workshops! This VBC will be a 10 day hands-on event when thousands of people will live as sustainable urban Villagers once more! In every quadrant of the city, communities will be working together to directly transform the spaces where they live into ecological and sacred places that express creative and democratic participation. If you have not yet heard of the VBC, please go to www.cityrepair.org/vbc, where you will also find a registration form for the event, or call 503-235-8946 to learn more.

Sunday Parkways takes place on one Sunday each month from May through September in a different area of the city. Residents and visitors say they come to enjoy the traffic-free loop of streets connecting parks and schools filled with activities, music and vendors. It's safe, family-friendly and a chance to meet neighbors. Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation thanks to presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente, and partners at Portland Parks & Recreation and Universal Cycles.
