Alumni Newsletter | August 2015
|
"For God has not destined us to receive wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, who died for us in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing." 1Thessalonians 5:9 - 11
The theme for the 2015/16 135th academic year is "Wake Up and Live" based on the above Bible verse. At Concordia University Wisconsin, we are waking up to an exciting new academic year as undergraduate and graduate students start arriving on the Mequon campus. Our adult education programs are busy with new classes beginning through the Centers and online learning.
In this issue of the CUW Alumni newsletter you will find many opportunities for you to encourage and build up others. In the process you will grow personally and professionally by being a mentor, continuing your education, connecting with like-minded individuals through events/volunteering or by providing scholarships through your sponsorship or participation in the Falcon Day Golf Classic. You also have the chance to build someone up by nominating them for the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Please take time to review the content of this newsletter through the articles and event listings and see how you and your fellow Concordians can "Wake Up and Live" along with our current students. It is a new day, let us rejoice, be glad and live!

Make a difference in the life of a
CUW student by becoming a mentor!
|
CUW is proud to announce starting this fall semester we will be launching two new mentoring programs for CUW students.
The first of these programs is the PROSPER (Providing Resources & Opportunities for Student Performance, Education, and Retention) Ministry program. PROSPER is for students who enter CUW with below normal admission standards. These standards include low ACT scores and lower GPAs. The program includes classes required by CUW for the students to take, and also a one-time event for students to attend and get matched with mentors to help them through their time at CUW. The Prosper program is looking for 20 Alumni to attend an event where you will share your experience and expertise with the group of students in the Prosper program, and possibly extend relationships with students beyond the one-time event. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th from 6-8 pm. If interested in becoming a mentor for this program, please contact us at alumni@cuw.edu.
The second mentoring program being offered is with the Design Your Future program located at our Mid-Town Center. The Concordia University "Design Your Future" (DYF) program is a two-year bachelor's bridge program for high school graduates between the ages of 18 - 23 who seek a better life through a faith-based higher education. The goal for the DYF program is to help students who are located in at-risk areas earn their Associates Degree in either Business Management, Criminal Justice or Liberal Arts. The program is looking for six Alumni to be mentors by meeting with the students in early afternoon for one meeting on Nov. 12th and two in spring. If you are interested in becoming a mentor for the program please contact us at alumni@cuw.edu.
